FollowingSoFi and MasterCard achieve stablecoin settlement: National Bank of America connects SoFiUSD to the global payment network for the first time
According to an announcement released on September 22, SoFi Technologies (Nasdaq: SOFI) and Mastercard (NYSE: MA) announced that the stablecoin settlement function has been fully launched in SoFi Bank's debit and credit card plans. This release marks the official connection of SoFiUSD, the first stablecoin issued by a national chartered bank, to Mastercard's global payment network. It is only a few months after the two companies announced their intention to cooperate in March this year. Both parties stated that this is the first time that a national bank in the United States has achieved substantial implementation of stablecoin settlement on the Mastercard network.
$25 billion credit card plan moves on-chain
As part of this promotion, SoFi Bank is migrating its entire credit card program to a stablecoin settlement system, which is expected to generate annualized transaction volume of more than $25 billion. The bank said that transaction data has been linked in real time. SoFiUSD is issued by SoFi Bank, which is regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), is convertible to U.S. dollars on a 1:1 ratio and is fully backed by cash-based reserves. Currently, SoFiUSD is open to institutional users and SoFi members, supporting payment, settlement and other financial application scenarios.
Instant settlement without adding merchant infrastructure
SoFi 强调，商家在使用该服务时无需改变现有运营模式。SoFi 首席执行官安东尼·诺托（Anthony Noto）表示：“在短短六个月内，SoFi 与 Mastercard 便将稳定币结算从概念转化为实际产品，显著改善了企业的资金流转效率。商户无需持有稳定币、构建新基础设施或改变运营方式。”他补充道，通过 SoFi 的大企业银行业务平台，任何商户均可即时在 SoFi Bank 账户中接收结算资金，并随时以零成本提取现金。
银行发行的稳定币进入生产级应用阶段
万事达卡指出，这一里程碑事件标志着稳定币从试点阶段迈向实际应用。“通过与 SoFi 的合作，我们正从探索阶段过渡到实施阶段，将受监管的稳定币结算引入真实的生产环境，”万事达卡全球数字化商业化负责人 Sherri Haymond 表示。此次发布延续了一波由银行主导的稳定币支付浪潮，此前 Wirex 已将 Tempo 作为企业稳定币卡的结算层，而 Coinbase 和 Moov 则向超过1,000家社区银行推出了稳定币支付服务。
SoFi 表示，目前正与美国大型商户积极洽谈基于稳定币的结算方案，并将与 Mastercard 共同探索 SoFiUSD 的其他用例，包括跨境支付和汇款服务。
