ETH IBM builds bridges between traditional banks and blockchain
IBM has taken an important step in bringing digital asset capabilities to the mainstream banking industry, connecting its Digital Asset Haven platform to SWIFT's blockchain-based shared ledger. Customers of IBM Digital Asset Haven can now connect to a permissioned blockchain network, which includes SWIFT's blockchain-based shared ledger.
This initiative aims to allow traditional financial institutions to provide tokenized deposit services without completely renovating existing infrastructure. At the heart of the announcement is a new message adapter currently in testing. With the release of the beta version of the IBM Digital Asset Haven ISO 20022 message adapter, institutions can use standard ISO 20022 messages to indicate tokenized deposit transactions through shared ledger infrastructure. This allows organizations to build on existing payment message formats and operating processes rather than relying on specific blockchain workflows.
For banks, its practical appeal is obvious: it can achieve round-the-clock liquidity support without being limited by traditional market time. The ledger supports tokenized deposits issued by banks and is designed to allow participating IBM customers to move digital assets 24/7, with final settlement occurring through existing systems.
