On-chain analysis firm Glassnode points out a structural shift in Bitcoin's intraday demand pattern
On-chain data analysis firm Glassnode marks a structural change in Bitcoin's intraday demand pattern: The "U.S. trading session pay", which measures the net price contribution during the New York trading session, has reversed direction since its breakthrough in September. This observation suggests that there have been meaningful changes in the market participants driving Bitcoin prices at the time level.
Glassnode confirms that Bitcoin's U.S. buy orders have reversed
"U.S. buy orders" track the rise and fall of Bitcoin during the North American market trading hours (approximately 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST). When this indicator is positive, it indicates that buyers in the U.S. period are the dominant marginal force; when it is negative, it means that offshore trading periods bear more of the load of price fluctuations. According to Glassnode's analysis, this balance has reversed since the September breakout.
This reversal is not an abnormal phenomenon in a single period of time. Glassnode describes its framework as a sustained reversal and defines the change as a structural feature of the post-breakthrough environment rather than a single-day noise event. This distinction is crucial because demand signals at the time level are lagging and tend to persist for weeks once a new benchmark is established.
Such timing deviations have occurred at other stages of past cycles. An on-chain structure analysis of Bitcoin near the US$78,000 resistance level shows that as spot accumulation increases, U.S. session participation is also increasing, indicating that session dominance and structural supply are often related signals worth tracking together.
Why this shift after the September breakthrough is crucial
The September breakthrough serves as a reference point because it marks a discrete change in the Bitcoin price structure. The flip of buying orders during the U.S. period coincides with this event, indicating that the breakout market is accompanied by changes in buyer structure and timing, and may even be driven by such changes. As for whether this shift reflects institutional participation, the timing of ETF capital flows, or macro-driven demand, currently available data cannot confirm it.
However, the signal does establish the fact that the Bitcoin price trend after the breakthrough has been shaped differently at the period level than before September. This is a relevant and important input for traders modeling intraday behavior: assumptions based on pre-break period patterns may no longer apply. Previous on-chain research, including data showing an accumulation of approximately 850,000 bitcoins in the US$60,000 to US$70,000 range, pointed to a huge cost-base cluster before the breakthrough, which provides context for understanding why the September market unlocked a new buyer base.
It is worth noting that pay-purchase analysis at the period level does not confirm the long-term trend direction. The U.S. session flip only means that U.S. participants have contributed more net positive pressure in their trading session window, and it does not mean that Bitcoin will continue to move higher or that the breakout is self-sustaining. The signal focuses on participation structures rather than price forecasts.
What should Bitcoin traders focus on next
The most actionable follow-up observation point is whether the flipped U.S. period purchase continues in subsequent weeks. If it breaks through the anomaly at one time and returns quickly, its analytical weight will be lower; if this transformation can be maintained in multiple settlement cycles, it will have higher analytical value. Traders should compare the performance of the U.S. session with the Asian and European sessions to determine whether this is an absolute increase in the intensity of U.S. buying orders or a relative change driven by weakness in the offshore session.
Exchange reserve trends provide a complementary perspective. Analysis of the reserve trajectory of Bitcoin exchanges shows that supply is flowing out of centralized platforms, a pattern historically consistent with stronger spot demand during active trading hours. If the intensity of the U.S. period purchases matches the continued decline in reserves, the structural argument will become more substantial.
Glassnode's observation is a data point, not a prediction. The value lies in marking that the post-September environment has a different time-level mechanism than the pre-breakthrough, a factor that an analyst tracking Bitcoin's broader on-chain structure should consider in a future framework.
