Coldcard's official X account was attacked by a phishing link, and the company urgently reminds users

Coldcard, maker of bitcoin-specific hardware wallets, announced on Sunday that a phishing link had appeared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. Since 2017, this account has adopted an offline two-factor authentication mechanism and implemented strict access control.

Coldcard said the company is investigating how the deleted post was posted from its account. The company advises users not to click on or interact in any way with the suspicious link, emphasizing that Coldcard's only official website is https://coldcard.com.

Currently, the company has contacted Platform X and conducted a comprehensive review of all account access records. Coldcard promises to share any further verified updates.

Previously, Cointelegraph reported that July 2026 has become the second highest month for cryptocurrency theft cases, mainly due to a security breach against Coldcard. According to DefiLlama, hackers stole $247.4 million worth of cryptocurrency in July, the highest amount this year after the $644 million stolen in April.

According to Galaxy Digital, the Coldcard exploit was the largest security incident of the month. In three waves of confirmed attacks, at least US$100 million in Bitcoin was stolen from 7,300 wallets. The company also identified a suspected fourth wave of attacks, with total losses likely reaching approximately $130 million. DefiLlama's hacker tracker estimates losses related to the Coldcard vulnerability at approximately $115 million.
