Core DAO suspends the issuance of pledge rewards for all core products
Core DAO has suspended the issuance of all forms of pledge rewards due to a malicious verifier attack on the network. This suspension covers all types of pledge products on the Core chain, including services provided through the b14g network, specifically involving b14g, dualCORE, stCORE and direct verifier pledges. Before rewards are resumed, users will temporarily face an annualized rate of return of 0% and will not receive additional reward distribution.
According to the b14g network, user funds are completely safe and b14g depositors do not need to take any actions. The platform promises to continue to inform users of developments.
Core first disclosed the problem on August 31, when it pointed out that a small number of validators accumulated block rewards far beyond the normal level of protocol design. The reward exceeded the expected amount only occurred to a few validators, and Core said it had identified the root cause and was developing mitigation measures.
The problem has been controlled and an emergency hard fork is planned
After that, Core confirmed that the incident has been controlled and malicious verifiers can no longer withdraw excess rewards. The planned network upgrade will only be forward fixed and will not roll back or revoke any confirmed transactions.
The total supply limit of $CORE tokens is 2.1 billion, of which approximately 40% will be allocated to node mining rewards, distributed according to the 81-year emission plan. Core has not disclosed how many additional CORE tokens were issued, how long the exploit lasted, and whether any excess tokens entered circulation.
Before and after the incident, several exchanges restricted transfers to $CORE. Coinbase suspended sending and receiving functions on the Core network;Bithumb and Coinone suspended repayments and withdrawals due to suspected or confirmed security issues. Bitget also suspended CORE's recharge and withdrawal business on the grounds of wallet maintenance, while LBank suspended recharge based on the project party's request.
Core described the incident as limited to the reward issuance process and said network security and asset custody were not affected. As of September 1, the team stated that relevant activities were under control and began coordinating with the verifier set for emergency hard forks. Core has not announced the specific activation time of the upgrade, nor has it disclosed the technical vulnerabilities that caused the excess rewards to be collected. It is expected that a complete technical review report will be released in the future.
Currently, b14g network users are advised to continue to hold positions and wait for further updates from the Core DAO as it resumes the normal pledge reward issuance process.
