Core Points

Entropy Advisors proposed on Tuesday that the Arbitrum DAO add 100 million ARB tokens to its decentralized finance (DeFi) incentive budget, aiming to make Paxos's USDG stablecoins a core strategic initiative.

Arbitrum joined the Global Dollar Network on Monday, and USDG is expected to become the default dollar asset in the Layer 2 network's DeFi ecosystem. According to the timetable, the proposal will be voted off-chain from October 15 to October 22, and on-chain from October 29 to November 12.

Details on USDG's 100 million ARB proposal

The day after Arbitrum joined the Global Dollar Network, a new governance proposal sought to invest 100 million ARB tokens to promote the use of the Global Dollar (USDG) stablecoins issued by Paxos. The proposal, published by Entropy Advisors at the Arbitrum DAO Forum, defines the 100 million ARB funding as an "investment in the revenue line." Because network partners will be rewarded when they hold, cast and accept USDG.

Specific use of 100 million ARBs

The proposal aims to support developers by "adding an additional 100 million ARBs to the DRIP budget," which refers to the DeFi Renaissance Incentive Program. The proposal states that approximately 65 million ARBs currently have not been spent on the program. ARB is a governance token used by DAO members to vote on such requests.

According to the proposal, if 15% to 20% of the market share of approximately $4 billion in stablecoins on the Arbitrum One network can be captured in the first year, it will represent hundreds of millions of dollars in USDG supply. During the growth phase, the DAO will reinvest most of its USDG rewards in developer incentives, and the net proceeds will flow into Arbitrum's treasury management.

According to the proposal's target timetable, forum discussions will last until October 15, followed by off-chain voting from October 15 to October 22, and on-chain voting from October 29 to November 12.

Arbitrum joins the Global Dollar Network

This proposal follows the announcement of USDG's native release on Arbitrum One. Global Dollar Network said USDG is expected to become the default dollar asset for the Layer 2 network's DeFi ecosystem. The network has more than 150 partners and more than US$3 billion is in circulation.

Institutions such as Paxos, Robinhood, Kraken, Galaxy Digital, Anchorage Digital, Bullish and Nuvei co-founded the network in November 2024 to share the benefits of stablecoin reserves with partners. According to CoinMarketCap data, USDG's market value as of this writing is approximately $3.16 billion.

USDG distribution is expanding to include providing revenue for eligible USDG balances through OKX's new currency application. Rival U.S. dollar tokens are also expanding, such as the Open USD stablecoin, which was launched on four chains in late September.

ARB was trading at approximately $0.20 at the time of writing, according to CoinMarketCap data.
