Hunter Biden launches "laptop" meme to intensify Trump family infighting through airdrop plan

Hunter Biden participated in the creation of the new meme coin LAPTOP and plans to airdrop

Hunter Biden is a member of the founding team of the new meme Coin called "LAPTOP". The token is scheduled to be officially launched on September 9 on the Base network built by Coinbase, with an initial supply of 1 billion coins. It is reported that part of the token supply will be reserved for traders who have suffered losses in trading TRUMP coins issued by President Donald Trump.

Utilize TRUMP coin losses for marketing

The LAPTOP team committed to earmarked (specifically earmarked) of its total supply of 1 billion for two rounds of airdrops. Notably, the name "LAPTOP" alluded to Hunter Biden's controversial laptop incident during the 2020 campaign.

People eligible for airdrops include individuals who have suffered losses in TRUMP coins transactions, Substack subscribers to Hunter Biden and his friends, and members of a mailing list maintained by video journalist Andrew Callaghan.

According to Nansen data reported by TechCrunch in July, as of the end of June, a total of 988,905 wallet addresses (approximately two-thirds of TRUMP coin buyers) had a combined loss of US$3.81 billion. TRUMP coins made their debut three days before Trump's inauguration in January 2025. The price soared to around $75 before quickly collapsing. Trump himself disclosed US$636 million in assets related to the currency and at least US$1.4 billion in cryptocurrency revenue in 2025.

Token allocation and security mechanism

In addition to the 20% reserved for airdrops, the founding team accounted for 30% of the supply. These tokens will be locked for six months and then gradually released over two years. An additional 20% is earmarked for charity, liquidity provision, exchange partners and market makers, with a portion of the funds being used to cover the accounting, legal and compliance costs required to operate the token foundation.

LAPTOP's plan includes a unique clause that allows the destruction of up to 30% of its supply. This "destruction" mechanism depends on 30 predetermined events and their respective deadlines. Triggers include Bitcoin hitting a record high, LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation exceeding TRUMP, and the Democratic Party winning the 2028 presidential election. However, if certain conditions are not met, the associated tokens will be donated to charity rather than destroyed.

Market background and regulatory concerns

Political memes often experience sharp price fluctuations after the Trump family announces new projects. For example, after the Melania token was announced in January 2025, the value of TRUMP coins plummeted by about 55% in a few minutes.

Before LAPTOP went online, Hunter Biden had spent months in public talking about cryptocurrencies. On a reactivated Platform X account, he called fiat currency a "scam," accused the banking class of "corruption," and wrote: "Decentralized digital currency and blockchain are the inevitable future." In an interview with Candace Owens, he said he believed in "memein" and claimed that one day he would "create a community."

Meanwhile, advocacy group Public Citizen estimated in late August that investors had lost at least $4.7 billion on five Trump-related ventures. This includes $3.2 billion in losses caused by TRUMP coins and approximately $1 billion in losses related to World Liberty Financial.

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins on August 4 urging an investigation into whether TRUMP coins "promoted any illegal fraud or unfair enrichment."
