Why did Kaspa return to the eyes of crypto traders? Analysis of three key factors
After one of the strongest unilateral moves in months, Kaspa has once again attracted market attention. In the past week, KAS prices have surged nearly 30%, once exceeding $0.037, and are currently trading at around $0.03521. Market data showed that KAS traded at around US$0.0275 in early September, before its rise accelerated significantly in recent days.
Well-known cryptocurrency analyst MissCrypto recently identified three developments that may bring Kaspa back into traders 'eyes: increased activity after Toccata's upgrade, lowering the threshold for KAS mining through KuCoin, and progress towards the public DAGKnight test network.
These developments may not fully explain every recent round of price increases, but they provide several fundamental catalysts to watch for KAS traders when speculative interest returns.
1. Toccata is changing development possibilities on Kaspa
The first reason is Toccata. Kaspa activated the Toccata upgrade on the main network on June 30, 2026, expanding developers 'ability to build applications directly on the Layer 1 network.
One of the biggest new features is Covenants. In short, contracts allow developers to set programmable conditions on how coins will subsequently be spent. They are not exactly the same as Ethereum's universal smart contracts, but give Kaspa greater programmability of the foundation layer.
This is critical for a network historically known mainly for its BlockDAG architecture, proof-of-work (PoW) security and fast transaction processing. According to data shared by MissCrypto, Kaspa now processes more than 15,000 contract transactions per day, an increase of approximately 1,322% from the previous month.
If this metric remains the same definition and methodology, this growth suggests that developers and users have begun experimenting with the features Toccata introduced. The bigger question is whether contract activities can grow into applications with sustained use. The temporary surge in trading volume is interesting; it will be even more important to KAS's long-term story if consistent activity volumes are maintained over the next few months.
2. KuCoin makes KAS mining more accessible
The second point mentioned by MissCrypto concerns accessibility of mining. Starting from August 25, KuCoin has provided users of its mining platform with a way to participate in KAS mining without having to purchase and operate their own physical ASIC equipment.
This is potentially important because Kaspa is still a proof-of-work network. Direct mining of KAS often involves specialized hardware, electricity bills, cooling, maintenance and the technical knowledge needed to operate equipment efficiently. Hosted or platform-based options reduce many of these obstacles.
This does not fundamentally change Kaspa's protocol, and easier mining access should not automatically be interpreted as an increase in demand for KAS. However, it does expand the size of those who want to participate economically in the Kaspa mining ecosystem without having to build their own mining facilities.
For assets trying to regain market attention, additional accessibility through the main centralized exchange ecosystem helps expose KAS to a wider community of crypto users.
3. DAGKnight is getting closer
The third development may be the most important technically: DAGKnight. DAGKnight has been part of Kaspa's long-term roadmap, which aims to advance its consensus architecture beyond the existing GHOSTDAG framework.
MissCrypto pointed out that an important development occurred on August 31, when the launch and operation of the public DAGKnight test network was considered a specific development project. The difference here is crucial: DAGKnight does not run on the Kaspa main network. The public test network will provide an environment where the technology can be deployed, tested and observed under more realistic conditions before any potential mainnet implementation.
This is why recent development work is important, but there is no need to exaggerate it. Moving towards a public testing network will transform DAGKnight from a bold R & D narrative to something that developers and the wider community can directly evaluate. If the public testing phase ultimately proves to be a success, attention will naturally turn to what DAGKnight needs before becoming part of the Kaspa production network.
Is Kaspa finally coming back?
KAS undoubtedly gives traders reason to pay attention to it again. From about $0.0275 in early September, KAS climbed above $0.037 in the latest rally and then stabilized around $0.035. Earnings of more than 13% were generated on September 7 alone, and Investing.com tracks market transaction volume of more than $100 million.
However, these three developments identified by MissCrypto operate on very different timelines. Toccata is already online, so contract usage can be measured immediately. KuCoin's mining services improve accessibility, but do not by themselves guarantee greater KAS needs. DAGKnight may be the biggest technology catalyst of the three, but it is still a future development and should not be seen as a completed mainnet upgrade.
In addition, there are other parallel developments in the Kaspa ecosystem, including efforts to build DeFi infrastructure around the network. For now, the weekly gain of about 30% seems to come at an interesting moment: Toccata has enabled Kaspa to transcend old functions, new ways to engage in the ecosystem are emerging, and one of the project's most anticipated technology developments is approaching public testing.
