Bitwise announced the liquidation of the Dogecoin ETF, which will be terminated after less than a year of operation.

Crypto asset management company Bitwise is gradually liquidating its Dogecoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), less than a year after the product was launched. This month, the product's assets were approximately $722,000.

Bitwise issued an announcement to investors on Thursday, announcing that it will liquidate the BWOW fund and expects the last trading day on the New York Stock Exchange's Arca Market to be October 14.

"On October 22, 2026, the remaining shareholders will receive the net asset value per share as of October 21, 2026 and will be paid in cash." Bitwise said in a statement that "shareholders do not need to take any action during this process."

Bitwise said the decision was part of its efforts to "optimize its product portfolio to meet changing investor needs."

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) allow investors to buy and sell shares on a stock exchange, thereby indirectly holding assets such as stocks, bonds, or cryptocurrencies without directly owning those assets.

According to the fund's website, the BWOW fund currently holds approximately 8.2 million DOGEs worth approximately US$688,000; but Bitwise did not use this as a reason to close the fund.

The fund will start trading on November 26, 2025 and aims to allow investors to gain investment exposure to Dogecoin through brokerage accounts without having to purchase and store cryptocurrency themselves. However, its planned liquidation will occur less than 11 months after launch.

As early as early as the beginning of 2025, Bitwise began to advance preparations for the fund and registered the Dogecoin ETF entity in Delaware in January of the same year. In November, Bitwise withdrew a deferred amendment to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's registration statement, making the application effective after 20 days without agency intervention.

The launch of the Dogecoin ETF coincides with a boom in cryptocurrency fund issuance, as issuers are expanding from Bitcoin and Ethereum to products that track other tokens. Other companies that have launched Dogecoin-related products include Grayscale, which launched Dogecoin and XRP ETF a few days ago.

When BWOW was released in November 2025, Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley emphasized the lasting vitality of Dogecoin and the strong demand of holders for exchange-traded products.

"Bitwise launched BWOW because millions of DOGE holders wanted the benefits of accessing cryptocurrencies through the ETP (Exchange Traded Product) format, and we believe they deserve this benefit." Horsley said then.
