TRUMP Hunter Biden launches "LAPTOP" meme, calling it a symbol of resilience.
On September 9, Hunter Biden, the second son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, launched a Meme Coin called "LAPTOP". As the name suggests, memoin is a type of cryptocurrency inspired by Internet jokes, viral trends or pop culture, and its value relies entirely on social media hype rather than traditional financial practicality.
This "LAPTOP" memin is a tribute to the 2020 notebook controversy surrounding Hunter Biden. At the time, documents from his MacBook Pro that he had left behind in a Delaware repair shop and had not retrieved made headlines. Donald Trump used the content of these documents-including emails, photos and business records-to launch attacks on Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election and beyond.
Hunter Biden said that "LAPTOP" memin symbolizes resilience, redemption and recovery, terms that had previously been used by his opponents to try to end his political career. "They turned the laptop into a weapon, and I turned it into a token."
Biden also took this opportunity to attack Trump's launch of the eponymous memin coin "Official Trump"(TRUMP), pointing out that 20% of the supply of "LAPTOP" will be used for airdrops, including those who have suffered losses in trading "TRUMP" tokens. Trump launched the memin named after him in January 2025, and its current price is down 97% from the peak of $73.43 set on January 19, 2025.
However, Hunter Biden's "LAPTOP" performance is not optimistic either. The token was issued on September 9 at a peak of $199.51, but has now plunged 99.9% to $0.2177.
Platform X bans accounts, Hunter Biden calls on Musk to unblock
Previously, Platform X banned accounts related to "LAPTOP" memin on suspicion of violating the rules. On September 13, Hunter Biden named Platform X boss Elon Musk-himself a cryptocurrency and memecoin enthusiast-to request that the account be restored before artificial intelligence "ends everything" in 2030.
Hunter Biden wrote in the post: "Since you and Dario both claim that artificial intelligence may end us all before 2030, is it possible to get @laptoptoken back online before 2030?"
Hunter Biden attributed the timing of the artificial intelligence threat in 2030 to Musk and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodi, and urged Musk to revoke the ban on the memin account before that year. Although both Musk and Ahmodi emphasized the seriousness of the artificial intelligence threat, they did not set a specific deadline of 2030, as Hunter Biden claimed. Instead, it was Anthropic researchers who recently warned that artificial intelligence could lead to human extinction by 2030, prompting Musk and Amodi to re-emphasize the threat posed by artificial intelligence.
