Shiba Inu's single-day destruction rate surged by more than 31,700%, with 72 million SHIBs destroyed
This week, Shiba Inu (SHIB) recorded one of the largest single-day destruction rate increases in its history. As millions of SHIB tokens were sent to destruction addresses, their destruction rate soared by 31,712%. This development has been accompanied by intensified activity in the cryptocurrency network, with data showing a significant increase in the number of tokens removed from circulation.
Coinbase leads the main destruction, with weekly and monthly destruction rates declining
Shibburn, a platform that tracks Shiba Inu's destruction of tokens, posted a post on X (formerly Twitter) saying that a total of 72.23 million SHIBs were destroyed in the past 24 hours. Among them, 69.3822 million SHIBs came from a single transaction originating from Coinbase, a large U.S. cryptocurrency exchange known for its large user base and active transaction volume.
In total, 111.41 million SHIBs were destroyed in the past week, and 476.96 million SHIBs were destroyed in the past 30 days. Despite the record single-day activity, Shibburn's analysis showed that the seven-day destruction rate dropped by 25.06%, and the monthly destruction rate dropped sharply by 86.19%. The data reflect a trend: high-frequency destruction may surge on certain days, but it is difficult to maintain momentum over a longer cycle.
Since its launch, Shiba Inu has been utilizing periodic destruction mechanisms to reduce total supply and potentially increase token value. Overall, out of 21,855 transactions, 410,844,342,553,194 SHIBs were permanently removed, equivalent to a market value of US$7.358 billion. Currently, the destroyed tokens account for 41.08% of the original supply of 1 trillion tokens.
Mini Dictionary: Shibburn is an online tracking tool used to monitor the destruction of Shiba Inu that summarizes and publicly reports the amount of SHIB tokens permanently destroyed by sending them to the destruction address.
Market reactions and recent price movements
Shiba Inu is facing recent profit-taking pressure after a four-day bull market driven by gains in the broader cryptocurrency market. Prices rose from Wednesday's low of $0.0000474, breaking through multiple major average daily moving averages: the 50-day moving average was $0.0000502 and the 200-day moving average was $0.0000529. The rally continued until reaching a peak of $0.0000570 on Saturday, before resistance prevented further gains.
At the most recent check, SHIB was trading at US$0.00005362, down 2.45% from 24 hours ago, but up 2.86% from the past week. These price movements reflect the broad trend in the cryptocurrency market, where rebound periods are often accompanied by waves of profit-taking triggered by investors adjusting positions.
