Aerodrome Finance co-founder sets an ambitious goal of at least doubling its share of spot trading volume by the end of 2026

Alexander Cutler, co-founder of Aerodrome Finance (@aeroxyz), has set an extremely ambitious goal for the agreement: "at least doubling our share of spot trading volume" by the end of 2026. This statement shows that as one of the most active centers in decentralized finance (DeFi), the team behind Aerodrome is showing growing confidence.

The current market position is solid

This goal is not groundless. According to DefiLlama data, in the past week alone,$AERO generated US$3.77 billion in DEX transactions. Currently, Aerodrome's total lock-in value (TVL) is US$388 million, the vast majority of which is concentrated on the Base chain.

According to data from The DeFi Report in May 2026, Aerodrome accounted for approximately 43% of Base DEX's transaction volume, followed by Uniswap with approximately 32%. Aerodrome operates on the ve(3,3) model, with 100% of all transaction fees flowing directly to veAERO holders, creating a rare mechanism for direct pegging of tokens to revenue in the DeFi space.

The Slipstream centralized liquidity pool launched in April 2024 significantly increased trading volume share, allowing Aerodrome's market share in Base DEX to jump from approximately 50% to more than 63%, and replacing Uniswap as the preferred platform for many trading pairs.

Mergers are expected to change the competitive landscape

Cutler's ambitions are backed by structural catalysts. Aerodrome Finance and Velodrome Finance are merging into a unified protocol called "Aero", which is scheduled to be deployed on seven EVM-compatible chains on October 21, 2026, including Base, Ethereum Mainnet, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Arbitrum and Robinhood Chain.

The merger is expected to approximately triple the current 17% share of EVM spot trading volume between the two agreements. After the merger announcement was announced on September 25, AERO prices immediately rose by about 25%, showing the market's strong expectation for this move.

Whether Cutler's market share goals can be achieved will depend on whether the combined agreement can quickly attract liquidity on the new chain and how competitors, especially Uniswap, respond.
