Ripple cooperates with Jeonbuk Bank to promote real-time settlement of cross-border commercial remittances

On August 18, Ripple and Jeonbuk Bank reached a cooperation to deploy the Ripple Payments service for cross-border commercial remittances, making Jeonbuk Bank the first regional bank in South Korea to adopt this service.

Cooperation Points

Ripple and Jeonbuk Bank have joined hands to support near-real-time cross-border commercial remittance settlement. Jeonbuk Bank became the first regional bank in South Korea to deploy Ripple Payments Infrastructure services. The two parties did not disclose payment channels, transaction volumes, customer fees or commercial launch schedules. Ripple also did not disclose that XRP, RLUSD or any Korean won stablecoin would be used to support Jeonbuk Bank's transfer business. Jeon-North Bank plans to serve importers, exporters, technology startups and online creators engaged in international commercial payments.

Both parties stated that the integration will enable Jeonbuk Bank to complete international transfer and settlement in seconds or minutes, while traditional agent bank payments usually take days. The service will operate 24/7, rather than being limited to local bank working hours.

Ripple and Jeonbuk Bank did not disclose the first payment channels, supporting currencies, transaction volumes, fees or a complete commercial launch schedule. They also did not specify XRP, RLUSD or Korean won stablecoins as settlement assets.

Ripple Payments for Jeonbuk Bank's corporate customers

Jeonbuk Bank plans to provide this service to companies that often make international payments. Ripple lists importers, exporters, technology startups and online content creators as potential users. When local banks lack direct partnerships with recipient institutions, regional companies often rely on intermediary banks. Each additional intermediate link will increase processing time, expenses and reconciliation work.

Ripple Payments is designed to manage payment routing, foreign exchange and settlement through a single institutional connection. Ripple said its broader payment network covers more than 60 markets and has processed more than $100 billion in transactions since its launch. This online data applies to Ripple Payments around the world, not specifically Jeonbei Bank. Neither party provided expected transaction volume or customer adoption data for this South Korean cooperation.

The

announcement described settlement as "near real-time" and said transfers could be completed in seconds or minutes. The actual arrival time may depend on the target market, payment provider, compliance checks, and local banking infrastructure. Ripple did not say whether Jeonbuk Bank customers could immediately use the service. As of the time of inspection, the bank's product page had not provided detailed pricing or eligible channel information.

Cooperation does not confirm the use of XRP or stablecoins

The cooperation announcement did not mention that Jeonbuk Bank would purchase, hold or transfer XRP. Ripple Payments can support different combinations of fiat currencies, stablecoins and digital assets based on payment channels and regulatory requirements. No chain addresses or transaction records were disclosed. As a result, the partnership does not provide measurable evidence of new XRP demand or activity on XRP Ledger. Ripple also does not list RLUSD as a settlement asset. Any claim that the bank will use Ripple U.S. dollar stablecoin will require subsequent product announcements or transaction records to confirm it.

Community commentator Vet suggested that a Korean won stablecoin may emerge in the future, supporting Ripple Payments through XRP Ledger. He also pointed to Ripple's work on licensing transaction infrastructure. These statements describe a possible pattern rather than confirmed Jeonbei Bank products.

Jeonbuk Bank is part of JB Financial Group, headquartered in North Jeolla Province, serving local customers. This new partnership expands Ripple's strategy of surpassing large national financial institutions in South Korea. Ripple previously signed agreements with Kbank and Kyobo Life Insurance in 2026. Each cooperation covers a different part of its institutional infrastructure. Previous reports have shown that Kbank tested blockchain remittances to United Arab Emirates and Thailand through a multi-phase project. The test focuses on wallet infrastructure and stablecoin settlement rather than confirmed XRP usage. Ripple later announced that Kbank would deploy wallet infrastructure through Ripple Custody. The product supports institutional digital asset management across multiple blockchain networks. Kyobo Life explores different use cases. Related reports pointed out that the insurance company used the Ripple Custody pilot to achieve near-real-time settlement of tokenized South Korean government bonds. The project is still in the pilot stage and no commercial payment service has been established. Jeonbei Bank's agreement focuses more directly on cross-border remittances to corporate customers.

Fiona Murray, Managing Director of Ripple Asia Pacific, said the cooperation reflects the growing interest of Korean financial institutions. Her statement viewed Jeonbei Bank's deployment as part of a broader institutional expansion.

Jeonbuk Bank expects payment cooperation to help growth

Park Choon-won, president of Jeonbuk Bank, said the cooperation will help the bank transcend its traditional regional role and compete as a digital finance provider. "This partnership will become a new growth engine for banks," Park said. This statement is forward-looking. Jeonbuk Bank has not disclosed revenue targets, number of customers or expected payments related to the service. The bank needs to explain which customers are eligible, what currencies can be sent and received, and how the fees compare to existing remittance services. Even if the underlying settlement process continues to operate, regulatory and compliance inspections are still necessary. Near real-time settlement does not mean that every payment will arrive immediately. International transfers may still face sanctions screening, customer verification, fraud controls and target market restrictions. An unverified market response was specifically linked to this announcement. XRP price fluctuations cannot be attributed to this cooperation without evidence of a link between trading activity and news.
