AI-driven payments: The transaction volume of XRP and Ripple USD is approaching 4 million

The transaction volume of the AI-driven payment system based on XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD) has reached nearly 4 million, but the more eye-catching development is the accelerating speed of its activities. According to data cited by t54, approximately 3,992,146 Agent transactions were settled through its XRP Ledger x402 infrastructure. By comparison, the number on September 1 was about 3.1 million, which means that nearly 892,000 more transactions were added in just four days, a growth rate of about 29%.

Meanwhile, XRP itself is trading at about $1.40, down about 4% in the past 24 hours. This phenomenon creates a new divergence between token prices and the fast-growing area of XRPL (XRP ledger) usage.

has surged from 1 million to nearly 4 million agent payments in a few weeks.

If the comparison period is lengthened, this accelerating trend will be clearer. In July, when J. As Ayo Akinyele discussed potential paths to achieve 10 million to 100 million transactions in the next few years, agent payments on XRPL had just exceeded the 1 million mark. Today, the number of transactions tracked has reached nearly four times the initial milestone.

At the heart of this infrastructure is x402, a native HTTP payment protocol that allows software agents to pay for digital services without the need for traditional checkout processes. On XRPL, agents can use XRP or RLUSD to purchase API access, computing resources, data, or other machine-readable services.

Ripple officially extended this strategy in June with the release of the XRPL AI Starter Kit, which packages tools for autonomous payments and supports x402 transactions using XRP and RLUSD.

RLUSD becomes another growth engine

The influx of agent payments coincides with the rapid expansion of Ripple stablecoin. As of September 4, the market cap of RLUSD was approximately $2.4 billion, up from approximately $2.07 billion on August 25, an increase of approximately 16% in ten days. RLUSD had just crossed the $2 billion mark, a milestone that had been noted in the analysis.

This combination is important because autonomous agents usually do not want to face price fluctuations. XRP can serve as a native asset for XRPL, while RLUSD provides machines with payment options denominated in dollars.

MasterCard's partnership is about trust, not XRP adoption

In addition, there is a broader perspective on payments. t54 has been selected to join MasterCard's Start Path Agentic Commerce & Services program, and its infrastructure also supports MasterCard's Verifiable Intent framework. MasterCard designed the standard to prove who authorized the AI agent, what it is allowed to do, and what the intended purchase is.

This should not be interpreted as MasterCard's adoption of XRP as a settlement asset. Instead, it connects XRPL-based agent payments with broader industry efforts to solve one of the most thorny issues in autonomous commerce: how to make machines spend money without ceding authorization and risk control.

Timing is meaningful. India is preparing for intelligent payments for its vast UPI network, while MasterCard, Visa and other payment companies are also building their own autonomous commerce infrastructure. Therefore, the significance of the 4 million milestone is not only because it is an isolated record, but also because it proves that although XRP's price performance is relatively calm, XRPL is striving for a place in the emerging machine payment market.
