Key Insights
BlackRock's IBIT attracted $3.7 billion in funding this quarter as demand for cryptocurrency ETFs rebounded. The U.S. Bitcoin ETF added $3.8 billion in inflows in three weeks, shrinking its 2026 loss to $1 billion. The Ethereum ETF recorded a net inflow of 10,330 ETH, with BlackRock's ETHA leading demand.
Cryptocurrency ETFs regained momentum as BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) attracted approximately $3.7 billion in funding during the quarter. This inflow puts IBIT on track to set its strongest quarterly gold draw record since the third quarter of 2025. Inflows of US$459.8 million were achieved in September, after inflows of approximately US$3 billion in August. The August total marked IBIT's strongest monthly inflow since October 2025.
After a large summer redemption, Cryptocurrency ETF recovery
IBIT's recovery is part of a broader rebound in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF products. In August, the Bitcoin ETF attracted $3.52 billion, the strongest monthly performance in 2026.
The recovery continued into early September, forming a three-week continuous inflow. Those three weeks brought approximately $3.8 billion in funding to the category. Net inflows increased by $986.9 million for the week ended September 5. On September 3 alone, a net inflow of $730.9 million was generated. These inflows will reduce the industry's net deficit to approximately $1 billion in 2026. The increase came after massive redemptions at the beginning of the year.
June caused the biggest setback, with about $4.5 billion leaving the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF. A large number of divestments were also recorded in May, adding to mid-year pressure in the category. Subsequent inflows in August and September further narrowed the gap. Still, after the recent recovery, the total for 2026 remains negative.
BlackRock leads a rebound in Bitcoin cryptocurrency ETF
BlackRock's IBIT remains the largest single Bitcoin ETF in the U.S. market. Its latest quarterly inflows totaled approximately $3.66 billion, reversing earlier negative inflows. IBIT's assets recently rebounded from nearly $47 billion to approximately $62.64 billion. The increase follows the latest recovery in fund inflows.
Since the launch of the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF on January 11, 2024, cumulative inflows have reached approximately US$55.6 billion. The total assets under management currently held by this category are approximately US$101.3 billion.
Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund has also contributed to the recent recovery. ARK21 Shares and Bitwise products are still part of the U.S. market. However, Grayscale's GBTC continues to record redemptions. This model contrasts with fresh capital entering several competing products. IBIT has the largest asset base in a single fund. As a result, its latest inflow has contributed significantly to the recent category recovery.
Ethereum ETF flows increase in recent activity
During the same period, Ethereum ETF activity also recorded a positive net flow. On September 4, the U.S. Ethereum ETF had a total net inflow of 10,330 ETH. BlackRock's ETHA leads the group, reporting a net inflow of 29,600 ETH. Bitwise's ETHB followed closely with 6,540 ETH.
Fidelity's FETH moved in the opposite direction, recording the divestment of 19,270 ETH units. Despite Fidelity's divestments, fund-level data has generated positive totals for the Ethereum ETF. At the same time, inflows into Bitcoin ETFs continue to narrow the category's previous 2026 deficit. During that recovery, IBIT remained the largest fund.
For cryptocurrency ETFs, the latest data shows a change from the summer redemption period. IBIT's quarterly gold intake and August performance put BlackRock at the center of this rally. Despite recent inflows, Bitcoin ETF still has an unfilled gap of approximately $1 billion in 2026.
