FollowingSEC Commissioner Hester Peirce officially resigned, loyal to the title of "Crypto Mom"
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce has submitted his formal resignation, effective October 2. Pierce, known as the "crypto mom" for advocating clear, rules-based regulation of the cryptocurrency industry, posted a copy of her resignation letter on Platform X on Friday.
In her letter, she thanked the president for awarding her "the most glorious moment of her career" and noted that she left the SEC under the distinguished leadership of Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda. Both current members are Republicans.
Pierce served on the committee for approximately eight years. From February 4, 2025, she will also serve as the director of the agency's encryption working group. According to SEC rules, her term officially ends in June 2025, but the rules state: "If not replaced before expiration, members may continue to serve for approximately 18 months."
Joined the University of Virginia Law School
It has been previously reported that Pierce plans to join the Law School at Regent University in Virginia as an associate professor in November. The school said Pierce expects to help the law school strengthen its academic focus in areas such as federal litigation, securities regulation and digital assets.
