Robinhood's cryptocurrency trading volume has increased significantly

Recently, Robinhood released a remarkable data: its cryptocurrency trading volume in August rose sharply by 61% year-on-year, reaching a total of US$17.5 billion. Although this figure is a significant increase from the previous month, overall transaction volume still fell 38% compared with the same period last year. As a company known for its online brokerage services, Robinhood provides investors with multiple trading channels such as stocks, options and digital currencies.

What role does Bitstamp play in this?

A detailed analysis of the August 2026 activity report shows that Bitstamp contributed US$10.1 billion of total cryptocurrency trading volume, with the remaining US$7.4 billion coming from transactions in Robinhood's own apps. Since being acquired by Robinhood in June 2025, Bitstamp has become the dominant platform in the company's cryptocurrency trading business during this period.

Did Bitstamp dominate the second quarter?

Yes, Bitstamp remained strong in the second quarter and continues to be the main source of Robinhood's cryptocurrency trading volume. Of the $40 billion in total cryptocurrency trading volume recorded during the quarter,$22 billion came from Bitstamp, while the Robinhood app contributed $18 billion. This distribution structure highlights the continued and substantial synergy brought by Bitstamp's integration into Robinhood's crypto business segment.

Although Bitstamp's July transaction volume increased by 53% month-on-month, it still fell 30% from the same period last year. In comparison, Robinhood apps achieved a month-on-month growth of 72%, although they are still 46% behind August 2025 levels.

Robinhood has enabled its crypto division to fully benefit from the synergy benefits brought by this acquisition by integrating Bitstamp. Data showed that cryptocurrency-related revenue fell 38% year-on-year in the second quarter to US$100 million; previously, revenue from the sector was approximately US$160 million. However, growth in derivatives and equity trading offset the decline, propelling Robinhood to record quarterly revenue and profit.

In addition, Robinhood clearly pointed out that the above statistics do not include the volume of cryptocurrency transactions originating from the "Robinhood Chain". As a result, the reported totals only reflect transactions conducted through the Bitstamp and Robinhood apps. Bitstamp transaction volume surged 53% month-on-month in July, although it declined year-on-year; Robinhood apps achieved a high monthly growth of 72%, but still lower than the level of the same period last year. With the continuous release of Bitstamp's integration effect, the advantages of cooperation between the two parties have further emerged.
