Robinhood, Binance and Coinbase now accept AI agency orders: Everything you need to know

Robinhood, Binance and Coinbase have opened up trading rights for AI agents one after another

This year, Robinhood, Binance and Coinbase have all opened up trading rights to AI agents. Among them, Robinhood reported that more than 150,000 proxy accounts have been opened and launched a new in-app tool for retail investors.

Core Points

Robinhood integrated its AI trading proxy function into its own application on September 29. More than 150,000 customers have opened proxy accounts.
Binance's Agent OS and Coinbase's "Agents for Coinbase" service enable transactions by linking external AI tools to exchange accounts, while allowing users to set operating limits.
All three companies place the responsibility for agency transactions on the customers themselves, and the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Agency (FINRA) has pointed out the existence of autonomy and audit risks.

Robinhood's proxy function is officially launched

Robinhood officially released its "Agents" product at the HOOD Summit in Houston, marking the shift of AI transactions from third-party tools to platform-native applications. Users need to name the agent, open a separate agent account, and select a model from OpenAI or Anthropic. The agent can then conduct research on the market and issue trading orders, and can only manipulate the funds in the separate account.

By default, each transaction requires user approval, but users can also choose to turn off this option and authorize the agent to act independently. The company said it will gradually open the feature to customers in a random order over the next few weeks.

Binance and Coinbase's risk control mechanism

Binance launched Agent OS on August 20, a developer platform that connects tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code, and Cursor with its market data, account information, and order execution systems. Users can assign agents to dedicated sub-accounts, and the system prohibits withdrawals from these sub-accounts by default. Although the exchange does not impose a separate limit on the trading limit or loss limit of agents in these sub-accounts, the balance of funds transferred by users constitutes the actual operating limit.

Coinbase launched the "Coinbase for Agents" feature on June 11, allowing agents to trade and make payments from isolated portfolios or customer main accounts. The platform clearly warns that agents may misunderstand instructions, so users are responsible for the consequences of their authorized actions.

FINRA warns agent trading risks

All three platforms above reserve the responsibility for the consequences of the transaction to customers.

Jeff Li, vice president of products at Binance, said that because the inference process runs on the customer's own device or the AI application of choice, the exchange has no way of knowing the specific reasons why an agent made a particular trading decision.

Robinhood stated that it does not supervise or audit agents and has not yet compared their performance with other strategies. Abhishek Fatehpuria, Robinhood's vice president of product management, predicts that few customers will invest a large proportion of their net assets in proxy transactions on the first day.

As the regulator of the brokerage industry, FINRA listed the potential hazards of AI agents in its 2026 oversight report, including: automatic execution of transactions without human approval, exceeding the user's expected authority, and difficult to trace decision-making logic.

Industry Updates

Coinbase opened Agentic Wallets to developers in February this year, and Robinhood also introduced external agents to its platform in May. CEO Brian Armstrong wrote on September 9 that Coinbase is building a "financial account for AI" but did not announce a specific release date. Currently, Robinhood says its proxy tools are used nearly 30 million times a day.
