Bold prediction from Paris
In his keynote speech at the "Proof of Talk" conference in Paris, Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat and chairman of Bitmine, set a long-term target price of US$250,000 for Ethereum ($ETH), positioning it as future financial infrastructure rather than a speculative asset. Li believes that artificial intelligence and tokenization of real-world assets will reshape the network's role in global finance, with this target price implying an increase of approximately 50 times from current levels.
The Proof of Talk conference was held from June 2 to 3, 2026 at the Museum of Deco Arts in the Louvre in Paris, attracting approximately 2500 participants. The conference is known as the "Davos Forum for Web3", with 85% to 90% of attendees holding decision-makers or executive positions.
A forecast of US$250,000 per Ethereum will value the Ethereum network to approximately US$30 trillion, which means that the price will need to rise approximately 50 times from current levels. Li has previously set a more recent goal of reaching Ethereum prices of US$9000 to US$12000 by the end of 2026, but this Paris speech was his most comprehensive public statement to date of the network's long-term potential.
Machine Economy Argument
Li predicts that a machine-to-machine economy driven by autonomous AI agents will rise, and Ethereum will serve as the base currency for purchasing computing power. The argument is straightforward: Large-scale transactions in autonomous systems require payment channels that do not require constant human supervision, and Li believes Ethereum's smart contract layer is best suited to provide this feature.
Li pointed out three key factors supporting his argument: the growth of stablecoins on Ethereum, the rise of tokenization of real-world assets, and the potential of AI infrastructure. He also mentioned a governance shift that he believed was underestimating the market-after years of deliberate downsizing, the Ethereum Foundation currently only holds about 100,000 ETH units, accounting for about 0.1% of the total supply, and corporate validators are filling this gap.
Bitmine recently purchased 111,942 Ethereum, increasing its position to nearly 5.4 million ETH, accounting for approximately 4.47% of the circulating supply. Li believes that corporate verifiers will replace the shrinking Ethereum Foundation as key managers of the network.
Not everyone agrees with this view. To reach US$250,000 per Ether, Bitcoin may need to be traded between US$2 million and US$3 million, the ETH/BTC ratio needs to be significantly reversed, and the size of corporate validators needs to be much larger than current data supports. Some in the trading community pointed to mistakes in Li's previous predictions, while others questioned the feasibility of an extreme rise scenario when Ethereum struggled to hold on to key support levels. However, the potential trends he cited-including AI-driven payment demand and growing institutional tokenization-are widely seen as structural positive factors for the Ethereum network.
