BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo donated another £ 4 million to Farage's Reform Britain Party

BitMEX co-founder injected another £ 4 million into the Reform Party, bringing a total annual donation to 8 million.

BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo once again donated £ 4 million to the Reform UK, according to UK Election Commission records released on Thursday. So far, his total donation to the party this year has reached £ 8 million.

The funds were remitted in two cash instalments, received on April 17 and April 30, respectively, and formally accepted the next day. These two donations together accounted for 75% of the Reform Party's total donation of £ 5.33 million for the quarter and were the single largest donation received by any British political party during the quarter.

Reform Party has performed well in fundraising, but faces wider scrutiny

Although the Conservatives reported higher overall funding, the Reform Party's fundraising exceeded that of Labour, which accepted £ 3.59 million. Meanwhile, Thai Tether stakeholder Christopher Harborne, who has donated £ 15 million to the Reform Party since the last election, has not donated to any political party this season.

Starting from March this year, if you want to donate more than £ 100,000 a year in the UK, the donor must be registered on the UK electoral roll for 12 months. According to the Guardian, insiders of the Reform Party expressed confidence that the party would not have to refund Dellow's £ 4 million, suggesting that Dellow's registration may take longer than outsiders expected.

Digital assets were not used before the cryptocurrency ban came into effect

It is worth noting that none of the above donations were paid through cryptocurrency. The UK banned the use of cryptocurrency in political donations in March this year, and the Reform Party was the only major party to accept such donations. However, neither Dellow nor Harborne's funds ever appeared in this form.

Dellow's Past Legal Background and Current Situation of BitMEX

Ben Dellow pleaded guilty in 2022 to violating the Bank Secrecy Act, involving BitMEX's failed anti-money laundering behavior. Subsequently, former U.S. President Donald Trump pardoned Dellow and other exchange co-founders Arthur Hayes and Samuel Reed in 2025. In an article published in the Daily Telegraph in April, Dellow called the case a "regulatory breach that does not even constitute a crime in the UK."

Currently, BitMEX itself is gradually shutting down. Its owner, HDR Global Trading, announced in July this year that after a strategic review, the exchange, co-founded by Delo in 2014 and no longer operated by it, would close on September 23.

Top level resignation controversy and compliance investigation

The donation comes at a time when the Reform Party's funding sources are under wider scrutiny. Hours before the opening of the party convention, Farage's aide Dan Jukes and policy director James Orr resigned on Friday. Earlier, Channel 4 television broadcast a video showing the pair arranging for a so-called American company-actually controlled by undercover reporters-to provide £ 32,500 for the party's polling work.

Farage said the Reform Party "did not accept illegal funds" and blamed the blame on "random bar conversations" caused by inappropriate remarks by two unauthorized people, while ordering an internal investigation. The Election Commission said it had contacted Scotland Yard, which had not yet launched a formal investigation. In addition, the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner is separately assessing whether Farage should declare the £ 5 million personal grant provided by Harborne.
