David Schwartz, former chief technology officer of Ripple: It is not impossible for XRP to surpass Bitcoin in market value.
David Schwartz, honorary chief technology officer of Ripple, said that XRP (xrp) is eventually expected to surpass Bitcoin (btc) in market value. This "flip" means a gap of as much as $1.49 trillion needs to be filled.

Schwartz pointed out that XRP's market value transcendence will be due to its own faster growth rate, rather than the collapse of Bitcoin's value. Currently, Bitcoin's market value is about 17.7 times that of XRP. To keep pace, XRP needs to be close to $25.10. In addition, on September 8, the XRP Fund recorded a capital inflow of US$1.55 million, becoming the only U.S. cryptocurrency ETF to receive positive capital flows that day.
Schwartz supports XRP's idea of "flipping"
During an X Spaces discussion, a participant asked Schwartz if he really believed XRP could surpass Bitcoin. He answered in the affirmative, but then added a prerequisite.
"This will happen when XRP is growing faster than Bitcoin," Schwartz said. He believes the digital asset market will continue to expand in the coming years, allowing the largest tokens to climb together rather than competing against each other in a fixed pool of investor funds. He said that because XRP accounts faster and supports payment functions that Bitcoin cannot achieve, it should be able to capture more growth dividends.
Schwartz was involved in designing XRP ledgers in 2012 and left Ripple's chief technical position last year. He said this outcome was more likely than it would not happen, but did not set a specific timetable.
The mathematical model of XRP points to US$25
Bitcoin's market value is close to US$1.58 trillion, while XRP's market value is approximately US$89 billion, making the former approximately 17.7 times the latter's size. With approximately 62.74 billion tokens in circulation, XRP would need to reach approximately US$25.10 to be in line with the current Bitcoin valuation; if Bitcoin rises further, this threshold will increase.
Meanwhile, regulated XRP products have attracted more stable funding than their peers. On September 8, the spot XRP ETF attracted US$1.55 million in capital inflows, making it the only U.S. cryptocurrency fund in the positive capital flow field that day. In comparison, the Bitcoin fund lost $46.65 million, the Ethereum (eth) fund lost $24.29 million, and the Solana (sol) fund lost $667,000. The total market value of the entire cryptocurrency market fell by 0.33%. Bitcoin itself fell 0.81% that day.
Schwartz reviews the historical price trend of XRP
XRP has previously closed the gap with Bitcoin, although it currently ranks fifth in market capitalisation. On January 1, 2018, XRP's market value reached approximately US$92.6 billion, accounting for approximately 40% of Bitcoin's total market value at that time, ranking second among all cryptocurrencies.
Schwartz has talked about incredible topics many times this year. He recalled that when XRP was trading close to $0.006, the idea of rising to $0.25 seemed implausible to him; and when the price seemed too high, he sold some of his holdings at about $0.10. Today, the starting point of XRP is much higher than Bitcoin at the time.
