UniCredit Italy seeks technology partners to build digital asset infrastructure
UniCredit Italy is looking for a technology provider to build the underlying infrastructure for digital asset trading, custody and access to tokenized investment products. According to people familiar with the matter, the bank's current discussions are still in the early stages, and the business areas of interest include cryptocurrency custody and brokerage capabilities, tokenized investment products, and fixed-income securities based on stablecoins.
Cointelegraph has contacted UniCredit Bank about a technology provider that may fill this infrastructure gap to verify comments.
Currently, many large banks around the world are actively exploring the application of digital assets and stablecoin infrastructure. For example, U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States, successfully completed a cross-border payment transaction on Wednesday using its own stablecoin USDC.
In addition, London-based international Standard Chartered launched spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) trading services for institutional clients in United Arab Emirates on September 3. Previously, the bank launched digital asset custody services in the region in September 2024.
As early as August, Leumi, Israel's largest bank, reached a partnership with Galaxy Digital to plan to provide customers with Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana (SOL) trading services through its investment platform. The project is expected to be officially launched in early 2027.
