Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong reiterated that Bitcoin is expected to reach US$400,000 in 2030.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong remains optimistic that Bitcoin will reach US$400,000 by 2030 and describes this ambitious forecast as "reasonable." Although Bitcoin is currently trading at around $76,700, Armstrong remains optimistic.
In an interview with CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" program on Thursday, Armstrong reiterated his view on long-term bullish and emphasized that Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, still has huge upside.
Coinbase CEO is firmly optimistic about the future of Bitcoin
Armstrong pointed out the four-year cycle that Bitcoin has attracted widespread attention. Typically, the cryptocurrency goes through a period of frenetic rise before entering a prolonged downturn. According to the CEO of Coinbase, Bitcoin has now passed the first year of its latest adjustment period, which means the worst may be over. "I personally believe that Bitcoin has hit bottom in this cycle," Armstrong said, citing the fact that Bitcoin rebounded from about $60,000 to support this view.
When asked if he still believed Bitcoin could reach US$400,000 in 2030 even when the current price was below US$77,000, Armstrong remained confident. He reiterated that achieving the six-figure goal is achievable and said that in more than three years,$400,000 is a reasonable price for top crypto assets.
The next year or two will be a good period for Bitcoin
Armstrong also mentioned the historical trend that Bitcoin tends to rise before halving events, with the next halving expected to occur in about 18 months. "I think the next year or two will be good for Bitcoin," he said, adding his bullish outlook on BTC.
The next four-year Bitcoin halving event is currently expected to take place in mid-April 2028, when the network will reach a block height of 1,050,000.
At the same time, Armstrong is equally optimistic about Washington's regulatory prospects. With the Senate scheduled to vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, he said conversations with lawmakers have convinced him that the bill is on track to be approved. He added that law enforcement agencies, large banks and cryptocurrency companies generally support the bill, and previous concerns raised by Coinbase have been addressed.
Armstrong believes Bitcoin may gain regulatory clarity regardless of the Senate vote. If the CLARITY Act passes, he said the industry will eventually have clear legislation. But if lawmakers reject or delay the bill, Armstrong believes the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are ready to move forward with their respective rulemaking, which could lead to clearer cryptocurrency regulatory policies soon after the September 15 vote.
