JPMorgan Chase raised its SEDG target price to US$44, Maintain a "neutral" rating
JPMorgan raised its price target for SolarEdge (SEDG) to $44 from $37 while maintaining a "neutral" rating. This suggests that the stock's potential upside is about 24% relative to the previous trading day's closing price.
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) raised its price target to US$30 from US$24, although the target still represents about 17% downside potential.
SEDG shares closed at US$35.52 at the end of trading, down US$1.24 intraday and within its annual trading range of US$28.21 to US$81.25.
The company's latest quarterly results exceeded expectations, with earnings per share of $0.05, compared with previous market expectations of a loss per share of $0.02; sales reached $346.2 million, above expectations of $341.1 million.
Wall Street generally holds a "undersell" view, with an average target price of approximately US$39, including 2 buy, 10 hold and 5 sell ratings.
Analysts raise price target, but market sentiment remains cautious
SolarEdge (SEDG) attracted Wall Street attention on Friday, with major financial institutions JPMorgan Chase and Royal Bank of Canada both raising their price targets, although the broader group of analysts continued to express reservations. SolarEdge Technologies, Inc., SEDG
JPMorgan raised its price target to $44 from the previous $37 and maintained a "neutral" stance on the stock. The revised price target suggests a potential gain of about 24% relative to the stock's recent close of $35.52.
Royal Bank of Canada also raised its forecast to $30 from $24. However, despite the increase, RBC's price target still shows a downside risk of approximately 17% from recent trading levels, and the company maintains its "sector perform" rating.
Strategic Transformation: Entering AI Infrastructure and Data Centers
These target price adjustments follow SolarEdge's performance after its 2026 Investor Day event, where management outlined ambitious long-term revenue goals of approximately US$2.4 billion by 2029. The company also revealed its strategic expansion into artificial intelligence applications and power infrastructure solutions operated by hyperscale data centers.
This strategic transformation includes the co-development of an 800V DC protection framework with NVIDIA and an enhanced partnership with Infineon in solid state circuit breaker technology. The data center space is a new territory for SolarEdge's business model.
Interestingly, stock prices fall during the investor day. Market participants appear to be focused on the company's near-term revenue forecast of approximately $1.3 billion for fiscal 2026, which is consistent with existing expectations and fails to inspire enthusiasm.
Quarterly results exceeded expectations, but are still at a loss
SolarEdge announced its latest quarterly results on August 5. The company achieved earnings per share of $0.05, exceeding the market consensus expectation of a loss per share of $0.02. Sales totaled $346.2 million, slightly above analyst projections '$341.1 million.
The year-on-year revenue growth rate was 19.6%. In the corresponding quarter last year, SolarEdge reported a loss of $0.81 per share. Although this represents tangible progress, the company is still at a loss.
The net profit margin is approximately-20.29%, and the return on equity is approximately-29.17%. Throughout the fiscal year, Wall Street still expects a loss of $1.23 per share.
Wall Street maintains a cautious stance
In the broader analyst community, sentiment remains quite frosty. Goldman Sachs lowered its price target to $30 from $34 in August while maintaining a "sell" rating. Susquehanna lowered its price target to $38 from $56 and rated it "neutral."
Glj Research also has a "sell" view on SEDG shares. UBS, by contrast, changed its view from "neutral" to "buy" at the end of August and raised its target price to $42 from $36.
Weiss Ratings adjusted SEDG from "sell (e+)" to "sell (d-)", which is technically an upgrade but remains firmly in the sell area.
The current consensus price target on the street is approximately $39.43, including 2 buy ratings, 10 hold ratings and 5 sell opinions. Institutional investors and hedge funds jointly control 95.1% of the outstanding shares.
The stock hit a 52-week high of $81.25 and a 52-week low of $28.21. Its 50-day moving average is $40.18 and its 200-day moving average is $46.40.
