BTC Bitcoin prices topped US$81,500, but Peter Schiff was skeptical of the rebound
As the crypto market continued to recover, Bitcoin prices climbed strongly above US$81,500. However, long-time Bitcoin critic and gold advocate Peter Schiff believes investors are celebrating the wrong news.
Schiff questioned the market's rebound on Friday after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced news about tokenized stocks. Although cryptocurrency traders view this development as a potential opportunity for blockchain adoption, Schiff pointed out that it could actually diminish Bitcoin's investment appeal.
His core thesis is that tokenized stocks provide blockchain-based ownership convenience while giving investors access to physical businesses that generate profits and may pay dividends. In contrast, Bitcoin does not generate earnings or dividends, so the reliability of the store of value is controversial.
Schiff calls Bitcoin's rally illogical
Schiff published an article on social media platform X saying that the SEC's statement on tokenized stocks should be seen as a negative for Bitcoin, not a positive. He believes that tokenized securities can compete directly with Bitcoin by providing ownership of digital assets endorsed by real companies.
