ARK and Securitize announce: ARKVX tokenized shares will be available on Ethereum
On September 24, ARK and Securitize announced that ARKVX, the tokenized share category of the ARK Venture Fund, will be available on the Ethereum network. Securitize will be responsible for the on-chain issuance of this share and investor Infrastructure services through its official tokenization platform.
What is more critical is the investment composition within the fund. According to the latest combined data disclosed by ARK, SpaceX accounted for 7.54%, OpenAI accounted for 5.26%, and Anthropic accounted for 3.86%. In addition, the portfolio also includes Stripe, Crusoe, Figure AI and other private equity and public market technology companies.
This means that investors are not buying tokens that directly represent shares in OpenAI, SpaceX or Anthropic, but are buying tokenized interests in a regulated fund that holds exposure to those companies.
Ethereum becomes settlement layer for venture capital exposure
The underlying asset companies remain within ARK venture capital funds. What has changed is the ownership infrastructure surrounding the fund itself. Securitize said ARKVX will use Ethereum as a vehicle for its tokenized shares, while qualified investors will access it through a regulated platform. The fund itself remains a proactively managed closed-end fund focusing on disruptive innovation areas.
This distinction is crucial. As mentioned earlier, the on-chain conversion of tokenized stocks and funds mainly changes the way ownership is recorded and transferred, but it does not transform the underlying private companies into crypto assets.
Since ARK's portfolio is highly biased towards the private equity market, the significance of this move goes far beyond putting another public equity fund on Ethereum.
"Tokenization" does not mean "full liquidity"
The biggest limitation lies in liquidity. The ARK Venture Capital Fund is still a range fund, and investors still need to rely on regular repurchase offers rather than being free to sell at any time. What the tokenization structure changes is the trading channel, not the liquidity characteristics of the underlying assets.
This is important because the word "on-chain" may give investors the illusion that they are more liquid than they actually are.
The move is in line with a broader industry trend that tokenized assets are becoming more deeply integrated into the traditional financial system. ARK itself also believes that tokenized assets are expected to become a huge market worth trillions of dollars in the future.
