BTC SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce resigns: The "guardian" of the crypto industry has lifted the burden
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce, the institution's most prominent supporter of the cryptocurrency industry, officially resigned on October 2. She posted the news on Platform X (formerly Twitter).
Farewell and Outlook in the Open Letter
Pierce announced his resignation decision in a post titled "Countdown to 7 Days" posted on September 25 and attached a photo of a resignation letter. In the letter, she said serving at the agency was "the highest honor of her career" and said she firmly believed that under the leadership of Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda, the "talented men and women" of the SEC would continue to maintain the balance she described.
Pierce was appointed by President Donald Trump and took office on January 11, 2018. He has served for nearly nine years. Despite the chairmanship of Jay Clayton and Gary Gensler, both of whom have taken aggressive enforcement actions against the industry, Pierce remains committed to promoting the development of crypto regulatory rules. Her statutory term ended on June 5, 2025, and subsequently continued to serve as a retention status for up to 18 months in accordance with SEC regulations. The industry has dubbed her "Crypto Mom", but she herself prefers to call herself a "freedom maximalist" rather than a purely industry advocate.
