Moody's Ratings assigns Sky Protocol a B3 issuer rating with a stable outlook

The Sky Frontier Foundation announced on Wednesday that Moody's Investors Service has officially awarded Sky Protocol a B3 issuer rating with a stable outlook. According to the foundation, this is the first time Moody's has rated any stablecoin agreement.

Sky Protocol is the issuer of USDS stablecoins and previously received a B-rating from S&P Global Ratings. Moody's rating marks the conclusion of another major credit rating agency's evaluation of decentralized finance (DeFi) issuers.

Reserves occupy the core position in ratings

According to the foundation's announcement, reserve levels are a key factor in Moody's assessment. Sky operates a repurchase and reserve framework that retains part of its net agreement revenue to build reserves, with a target amount set through Sky governance token voting process.

Greg Feibus, global head of capital markets at the Sky Frontier Foundation, said: "We appreciate Moody's rigour in reviewing Sky Protocol and the independent assessment it provides." He added: "The value of an independent credit rating is that it allows institutional investors to evaluate Sky using the framework they have become accustomed to in global markets."

Sky is rated by both Moody's and Standard & Poor's

This Moody's rating is a supplement to the B-level rating awarded to Sky Protocol by Standard & Poor's Global Ratings for the first time in August 2025. The foundation pointed out that as of now, Sky is the only stablecoin agreement formally rated by a major credit rating agency.
