Abstract Migration Center: What does checking that checkbox mean and why there won't be an airdrop

Abstract Chain Closure: How to withdraw funds without signing a harsh agreement

Any user who wishes to withdraw money from Abstract Chain will first see a window with a green background with only one sentence on it: "Abstract is closing." Below is a check box that says "I have read and agree to the terms of service", with a black "Continue" button next to it. This seems to be just a formality. However, behind this check box is hidden the Migration Hub Terms of Service dated October 6, 2026. This is an English contract with 21 chapters and a privacy policy. We read through the full text. Here's what you need to know: what you're signing, how to object, and how to transfer funds out completely without that check box.

Background information

is provided by Igloo Inc. Abstract, the Ethereum Layer 2 network operated by the company behind Pudgy Penguins, will be shut down on December 15, 2026. According to the project party, assets that cannot be bridged and transferred out at that time will not be accessible. We have described the path to exit the chain in previous guides, and this article will add contract details that accompany the easiest path.

Who is your counterparty?

The counterparty is neither Igloo nor Puggy Penguins, but Cube, Inc., a company incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware, USA. (Article 1.1). In addition, the contract also lists the Abstract Foundation in the Cayman Islands and the Abstract Protocol Security Council (the organization responsible for guiding on-chain upgrades and security functions). Both clearly indicate that they are not parties to the contract.

But they also benefit. Section 1.2 summarizes all parties involved as "Cube Parties", including Cube itself, the Foundation, current and former safety committee members (including trustees and signatories of multi-signature wallets), affiliates, directors, employees and contractors. The exemptions you accept through the checkboxes apply to all these individuals and companies. Article 20.4 stipulates that they are third-party beneficiaries and have the right to invoke the contract at their own discretion.

Article 1.4 is equally important: a check box means that the new contract replaces all previous terms of service, wallet and participation for Abstract and is only valid for the period after you agree to it. Conduct before this is still governed by the old rules, as recorded in the contract itself.

The maximum liability is only US$100 and even covers his own fault.

The core of the contract is concentrated in three parts, and these three parts are emphasized in capital letters.

  • Article 5.8, Waiver on Migration: Any user who uses the migration feature after checking the box, or simply attempts to use it, waives any claims against the Cube parties for loss, delay, error or failure,"including circumstances caused by their own general negligence"。This waiver remains valid even if the migration completes successfully. Fraud, gross negligence, intentional misconduct and breach of express contractual obligations are excluded.
  • Article 13.1, Limit of Liability: The total liability of all Cube parties is limited to the higher of: US$100 , or any fees you have paid directly to Cube in the past twelve months. Since Article 5.5 stipulates that the migration center will not charge usage fees and clarifies that network fees will not be included, the remaining liability limit for most users is only US$100. This cap applies once and clearly does not apply to every transaction, every wallet or every defendant.
  • Article 13.5, Deadline: A lawsuit must be filed within one year after the issue arises, otherwise the contract will permanently prohibit such claims (to the extent permitted by law to shorten the period).

Clauses 8.6 and 12 further aggravate the risk to users. Any user who ignores his or her assets or fails to complete steps within the specified time will bear the losses themselves, which clearly includes "lost access after shutdown." Article 12 also excludes liability for security breaches, phishing, smart contract errors, wrong receiving addresses, and chain interruptions, again including general negligence.

Arbitration venue is in Miami: How to opt out within 30 days

Article 17 stipulates that disputes will not be heard by courts, but will be arbitrated individually by the American Arbitration Association. Section 17.6 excludes class actions and consolidated proceedings. The legal place of arbitration is Miami, Florida, and the language of procedure is English. For consumers, the contract provides concessions, such as hearings on documents alone or via video, and limits the cap on filing costs.

You can choose to opt out of this part of the content without losing the right to use the Migration Center. Article 17.8 gives you 30 days from the date of your first consent to proceed. The method is as follows:

  1. Send an email to privacy@abs.xyz.
  2. Provide your name, account email address or related wallet address, and contact address.
  3. Write a clear statement, such as: "I choose to withdraw from the arbitration agreement and class action immunity in Article 17 of the Migration Center Terms of Service."
  4. Retain the sent message and its date. According to the contract, it takes effect without confirmation.

Limitations of withdrawal: Withdrawal only removes immunity from arbitration and class action. The waiver of liability in Article 5.8, the provisions on missed deadlines in Article 8.6, and the one-year period in Article 13.5 remain unchanged as expressly provided in Article 17.8. Do not include mnemonics or private keys in this email; the contract itself warns about this.

Good news: You can withdraw money without checking the box

For months, users have been collecting XPs on Abstract, unlocking badges and maintaining continuous records. Online guidelines call it "airdrop farming", and even in the spring of 2026, individual exchange blogs are still writing articles saying that XP will be transformed into future token allocations. We did not find any formal commitment to this in Abstract's own announcement. The new contract now ends that hope in writing.

Section 7.2 Records, the migration service does not include tokens, airdrops, distribution, profit distribution or redemption of XP, points, continuous records or badges. Section 7.1 adds that relocation does not in itself create any rights to rewards. Luca Netz, CEO of Igloo, once said on X that he had considered issuing Abstract tokens or token sales, but had given up.

All that remains is an archive. Under clause 7.3, Cube will keep XP data for all consenting users offline until six calendar months after shutdown, which is expected to be mid-2027. One possible purpose mentioned in the contract is that independent projects may recognize early participation in the future, but also excludes any promises: no right to receive tokens, no airdrops, and no guarantees that third parties will eventually receive data.

The resulting warning is that websites currently offering "Abstract Airdrops" or XP-based "ABS Token Collection" do not originate from the project under the terms of this contract. Abstract itself warned imitators and forged migration pages in its announcements. Only connect your wallet to abs.xyz and the addresses specified by the official accounts @AbstractChain and @Abstract_Eco on X.

Terms that still apply to European users

Contract options include Delaware law and the courts of Miami (for litigation outside of arbitration). But it contains an important self-restriction: Under section 18.2, it does not deprive consumers of protective rights, guarantees or remedies that cannot be waived under applicable law,"including mandatory protections in your place of habitual residence." If the laws of your place of residence allow you to sue in a court of your country despite an arbitration clause, the same section allows you to do so.

It is for the court to decide which terms will take effect in a German dispute, not this article. But one thing is certain: A $100 liability cap and waiver clauses covering negligence will be the focus of such disputes. It is also clear that anyone who takes a checkbox route does not need to fight over such disputes.

Two obligations before clicking

Two obligations in the contract also apply to you before you click. Section 5.6 warns that the address of Abstract Global Wallet (i.e. Abstract's smart contract wallet) may not belong to you or may not be available on other chains. Never use it as a destination unless the route clearly supports it. Article 8.1 clearly states that individual routes may have specific deadlines that expire before December 15.

How to find all the content you have on Abstract

It's easy to get lost if you try various apps over a few months. There are three places to help, and it is best to use them at the same time.

  • Know the correct address: Anyone who signs up using email or an X account has an Abstract Global Wallet. Its address is located in "My Wallet" under the portal, which is exactly the exact address you need for each step, not any other address connected to your wallet.
  • Check the block browser: In Abstract's browser atabscan.org, after entering the address, you can see all the tokens stored there under the balance, including those whose value is not displayed on the portal. Under "Token Authorizations", you can also find all authorizations granted to applications.
  • Introducing portfolio tracker: The tracker Zapper fully supports Abstract and displays the balance on the chain after you enter the address. Positions in pools, games, or individual application vaults are not necessarily recognized by trackers. So also browse your history in the browser and open every application you've used there.

Expect to find some tokens that no longer have value. In our Abstract wallet in the newsroom, the portal shows that the value of two memecoins is $0.00. If there are no buyers, bridging is meaningless: the cost will exceed the value.

Abstract Migration Center: Five steps before clicking "Continue"

  1. Save the contract: Save the terms of service as a PDF or a dated screenshot. Although Article 2.1 promises to retain download links for each version, access to the page itself cannot be guaranteed after it is closed.
  2. Inventory inventory: According to clause 5.1, the Migration Center may not necessarily display everything you have. NFTs, locked positions, liquidity in the pool, and balances within the application typically need to be withdrawn outside of the migration center, i.e., operating within the application itself (Article 5.2).
  3. Select a route: Check for native bridges or stand-alone services first. For larger amounts you intend to hold for the long term, self-hosting is the obvious destination; our Hardware Wallet Comparison provides an overview of the equipment.
  4. Test small amounts first: Send a small amount first and wait for it to reach the target chain. According to clause 5.7, confirmation transactions on Abstract have not yet been transferred; certain routes require a second step on the target chain.
  5. Protect your records: Section 8.7 clearly requires you to export transactions and obtain data before closing. This is useful for tax purposes, and relevant tools can be found in our comparison of cryptocurrency tax tools.

If you decide to use the Migration Center, please set a reminder in the calendar 25 days after checking the box to avoid missing the opt-out of the arbitration clause. See our PENGU price forecast for the impact of the end of Abstract on the PENGU token.
