He was confused that his funds were intact, while other users with large balances reported that their wallets were stolen even if they used little or no equipment. "For some reason, all of my BTC (and ETH) are still there," Car wrote."I don't understand why some users 'assets are lost remotely while my positions are so safe."

His comments highlighted its limited interaction with the device. By avoiding interaction with contracts, tokens and other wallet-related activities, Car maintains a simple storage architecture with Bitcoin and Ethereum at its core.

The trust battle between hardware wallets and centralized exchanges

Car's remarks also sparked widespread discussion about whether users should trust hardware wallets or rely on centralized exchanges.

User EDAN questioned why anyone would choose to trust Ledger, arguing that users still store cryptocurrency on devices made by another company. PaleNiimbus asked what the so-called alternative was, pointing out that the exchange was also created by a third party and held custody of users 'assets.

E DAN later admitted this view, but insisted that for some users, keeping funds on large exchanges may feel safer. He argued that if cryptocurrencies were lost on exchanges such as Binance, customers might be able to use KYC (Know Your Customer) information to restore access. At the same time, hardware wallets and decentralized applications may appear more complex for users with less technical experience.

Another commentator, Triple_G, offered an alternative explanation, arguing that users who were hacked bought equipment from secondary resellers and emphasized that "the problem is not with Ledger itself."

Taken together, Car's experience focuses on a simple custody process: purchasing directly from the manufacturer, keeping the device offline while idle, protecting mnemonics, and limiting wallet interactions. Although his case does not prove that any storage method is absolutely risk-free, it vividly demonstrates how his personal approach ensures the security and integrity of his Bitcoin and Ethereum holdings.
