Strategy CEO said selling Bitcoin was the right decision and ruled out further selling during the bull market.

Strategy CEO Phong Le responded to the company's recent sale of Bitcoin, saying the move was to strengthen the company's balance sheet. Le described the sale as "the right deal at the time" and emphasized that Strategy is currently in good financial shape.

Bitcoin Sale and Reaccumulation

As the largest holder of Bitcoin among listed companies, Strategy resumed buying Bitcoin on Monday after a ten-week moratorium. During the suspension that began in June, the company sold a small amount of Bitcoin holdings and focused on building two cash reserves.

Le explained that the company's decision-making process does not revolve around Bitcoin price fluctuations. "We don't make decisions based solely on Bitcoin prices," he said. He further explained that the company is essentially a "net accumulator" and that the sale stems from capital management considerations rather than speculative or trading purposes.

Phong Le explained: "We are net accumulators, so I don't sit there and ask,'When will I sell Bitcoin again?' This comes down to a mathematical problem of capital management, deciding when to do it." He said he did not expect the company to sell further because the company expected a strong bull market in the near future.

Business Model and Bitcoin Reserves

Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, is an enterprise software company that shifted to a financial strategy centered on Bitcoin in 2020. The company, which originally used Bitcoin as an inflation hedge for shareholders, has now become the largest corporate holder of the asset, currently managing 845,050 bitcoins worth US$65.1 billion at current prices.

The company's shares are traded on Nasdaq under the symbol MSTR, allowing investors to increase their exposure to bitcoin price fluctuations through traditional stock markets. Earlier this year, Strategy bought back some of its preferred stock (STRC) at a discount and increased its U.S. dollar reserves in an effort to enhance overall financial liquidity.

mini dictionary: STRC, or Strategy's preferred stock, is a stock class that usually receives dividends and assets in preference to common shares, but with limited voting rights.

Despite the financial adjustments, Strategy reported a paper loss of $8.22 billion in its July quarterly earnings report. Le downplayed the importance of current accounting losses, saying the company is in solid shape and confident about the future. Phong Le compared the company to large financial institutions, saying: "We are the JPMorgan Chase of the cryptoeconomy, so for me, selling 1000 of 840,000 bitcoins is not worth discussing at all."

Stock Performance

Strategy shares fell 2% on Wednesday. MSTR has fallen 22% since the beginning of the year.
