Bitwise has partnered with British platform Hargreaves Lansdown to provide Bitcoin ETP to retail investors.
Bitwise has partnered with British investment platform Hargreaves Lansdown to provide Bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETP) to British investors through one of the UK's largest brokers, thereby expanding retail access to cryptocurrency ETP.
Cooperation content
According to Hargreaves Lansdown, this cooperation brings Bitwise's Bitcoin ETP to its platform, which now provides customers with cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes. This is a distribution agreement, not a new product launch, that connects established publishers with established British brokers. Bitwise confirmed the expansion of the UK market in its official press room on October 20, 2025. The move builds on Bitwise's existing European business-the company has listed ETP, a cryptocurrency covering Bitcoin and Ethereum in Europe. Previously, Bitwise has listed four cryptocurrency ETPs on the London Stock Exchange, providing British retail and institutional investors with investment channels in Bitcoin and Ethereum. The partnership with Hargreaves Lansdown has further broadened retail access for these products.
The significance of the UK's acquisition of Bitcoin ETP
Distribution channels are the key. Reaching investors through mainstream platforms lowers the threshold for purchasing regulated Bitcoin products compared to using an independent cryptocurrency exchange. This timing coincides with a regulatory shift. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened retail channels for retail investors to cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes, overturning previous restrictions that limited participation to professional investors. It is this change that makes retail distribution possible through platforms like Hargreaves Lansdown. Bitwise is an active issuer in the cryptocurrency fund space. Its U.S. product line includes an XRP ETF with assets exceeding US$500 million and a Solana Pledge ETF with assets under management exceeding US$1 billion, which gives it extensive experience in incorporating cryptocurrency products into regulated frameworks.
Focus after launch
A signal worth noting in the short term is market acceptance: how much retail capital can Bitwise's Bitcoin ETP attract after large British platforms begin to commission. Investor interest has been mixed in other regions. The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF has recently experienced capital outflows, ending nine consecutive days of inflows. Another variable is competition. As FCA opens up retail channels and other issuers may seek similar platform partnerships, the first-mover advantage Bitwise has built through Hargreaves Lansdown may not last long. Product visibility and pricing will determine which products can win capital inflows from retail investors in the UK.
