Polymarket officially launches perpetual contract platform

Polymarket is now officially launched Polymarket Perps, a perpetual contract platform that allows users to trade cryptoassets, global stocks and commodities with leverage of up to 20 times through a single unified interface.

The move from a forecast market to a derivatives center

marks a major evolution for the platform. Polymarket has previously gained fame for allowing users to trade binary outcomes of elections, sporting events and global news events. Unlike binary contracts that settle after a specific event, perpetual contracts have no expiration date and users can hold positions indefinitely.

This launch actually transforms Polymarket from a niche prediction market to a comprehensive decentralized derivatives platform. The new platform allows users to go long or short in multiple markets, including Bitcoin and the S & P 500, and also serves as a venue for trading around macroeconomic events such as Fed decisions. Polymarket said Perps offers deep liquidity and low fees.

Asset and Market Coverage

Popular crypto assets integrated when launched include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ida, Sui and Binancin, while covering a wider range of financial markets. Polymarket Perps provides up to 20 times leverage on crypto assets, stocks, commodities and other assets. The timing of this full launch is also quite eye-catching: in March 2026, the forecast market transaction volume exceeded 192 million, setting a record high; and in 2025 alone, the transaction volume of perpetual contracts on crypto exchanges exceeded 86 trillion US dollars, an increase of approximately 47% over the previous year.

Entering the perpetual contract space puts Polymarket in direct competition with mature crypto derivatives platforms, while also facing challenges from rival prediction market operator Kalshi, which has said it will launch a similar product. This strategic expansion follows Polymarket's recent regulatory progress in the United States. The platform has previously been approved by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate as a designated contract market through its Polymarket US entity. The platform is available to international users in jurisdictions permitted by law.
