Latest News: The September 2026 report confirmed that BIS is using XRP to conduct a new on-chain verification pilot

The Bank for International Settlements, the following is a complete document.

A new working paper from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) confirms that the institution is using XRP ledgers as a blockchain infrastructure for data integrity pilots.
Cryptocurrency researcher SMQKE publicly shared the report and pointed out that XRP was mentioned 101 times in the document. The paper titled "Verifiable Official Statistics: A Blockchain-Based Approach" was released in September 2026 by the BIS Monetary and Economics Department.
The paper describes a proof-of-concept system that cryptographically anchors official statistical data sets to a public blockchain. BIS specifically chose the XRP ledger for its low fees, rapid consensus finality, and available developer resources.
Why BIS built the system on the XRP ledger
The system processes data sets in SDMx format through a cryptographic hash pipe and records a fingerprint on the XRP ledger. BIS describes this as "anchoring," meaning that each data set receives a tamper-proof promise along the chain. Any user can then verify that the published data has been tampered with since its original release.
Thepaper states that the system "utilizes XRP ledgers to achieve low-cost and fast transaction anchoring." The reported transaction fee is approximately US$0.000003 per anchored event. Under test conditions, verification of a single data set took 1 to 2 seconds, with release delays ranging from 3 to 5 seconds.
What does this mean for XRP adoption
BIS is at the heart of the global central bank infrastructure, serving central banks in more than 60 member institutions. XRP has been mentioned in important documents before, and this decision to build and release a working system based on XRP ledgers is another important signal of XRP's credibility.
Thereport identifies multiple future use cases based on this infrastructure, including real-time data verification for artificial intelligence agents, automated compliance tools for regulatory reporting, and integration with tokenized financial instruments such as inflation-linked bonds and derivatives. The paper points out that verified SDMx data could allow programmable digital assets to "automatically adjust their terms based on economic indicators."
Every use case requires an XRP ledger transaction. Increased institutional deployments will generate continued on-chain activity and expand the utility of XRP in sovereign financial infrastructure.
Highest level of institutional verification
SMQKE's post highlights what is directly confirmed in the document: this is not a theoretical proposal. BIS has built, tested, measured system performance, and released the results along with the open source code.
This news excited many market participants. For XRP, the combination of institutional credibility, measurable performance data, and public infrastructure lays the foundation for adoption beyond the realm of encryption and deep into the heart of global finance.
