The crypto market is under pressure again, with Bitcoin falling below US$83,200, Ethereum trading price hovering around US$2,560, and investors are gradually withdrawing from risky assets. The main problems stem from outside the crypto arena: government bond yields are rising rapidly, the US dollar is strengthening, and oil prices are rising again. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield hit about 5.3%, and the 30-year yield hit its highest level in about 24 years. High oil prices have exacerbated inflation concerns and led investors to question how much room the central bank has for easing monetary policy.
Reason for the decline in the crypto market
Rising yields are the core issue. High government bond yields make risk-free assets more attractive than speculative investments. At the same time, this also increases borrowing costs, putting pressure on the valuation of stocks and cryptocurrencies. This pressure is not limited to digital assets. The S & P 500 and Nasdaq have also pulled back due to rising government bond yields and oil prices, indicating that this is a broader risk averse rather than just a cryptocurrency incident.
Bitcoin showed signs of fatigue before this sell-off. BTC encountered resistance around $87,000 for the third time since September 23. Every attempt to break through the area attracted selling. Now that prices have fallen back to around $84,000, the lower edge of Bitcoin's near-term range is again being tested.
How deep can Bitcoin prices fall?
The first important support range for Bitcoin lies between US$82,000 and US$83,000. Recent basic cost data shows significant support around $82,300, which is a clear level that needs to be closely watched if the current decline continues.
Key price analysis
- US$84,000: Current area of contention
- US$82,000 -83,000: First major support level
- US$80,000: Important psychological barrier
- US$76,000 -78,000: Deep pullback area
- US$70,000 -72,000: If selling expands the main bearish target
- US$87,000 -88,000: The main resistance level that bulls need to recover
The most realistic downside scenario in the short term is to test the US$82,000 -83,000 range. If buying fails to appear here,$80,000 will become the next obvious target. Once US$80,000 is lost, the structure will be greatly weakened, and the US$76,000 -78,000 region may play a role. A move towards $70,000 may require a larger macro shock, continued liquidation pressure, or another sharp rise in bond yields. For now, this is a more aggressive bearish scenario rather than a benchmark scenario.
Bitcoin bulls also have a very clear level on the upside: BTC needs to recover US$87,000 -88,000. Repeated failures in the region have transformed it into the market's main short-term ceiling.
Ethereum appears more fragile
Ethereum is trading at approximately $2,560 and has been hit by multiple additional pressures. Not only is ETH facing a broader risk-averse environment, the U.S. spot Ethereum ETF recorded an outflow of approximately US$201.9 million on October 6, the largest single-day outflow in nearly three weeks. In addition, BitMine Chairman Tom Lee said the company will eventually stop accumulating ETH, which means Ethereum will lose a continuous source of funding, making the $2,500 area particularly important.
Ethereum Key Price Analysis
- US$2,550 -2,600: Current Price Region
- US$2,500: First Major Psychological Support Level
- US$2,400 -2,450: Important technology demand areas
- US$2,200 -2,250: Major medium-term support
- US$2,000: Key psychological barriers
- US$2,700 -2,800: Areas where bulls need to recover
