Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed EIP-8288, a project that aims to significantly reduce the cost of anti-quantum attack transactions. Buterin said he hopes the proposal, known as a "recursive STARK memory pool," will be included in Hegota's upgraded I-star program update.

The goal of EIP-8288 is to move signature and cryptographic proof out of Ethereum's core execution process and incorporate recursive STARK proof in the memory pool. The move aims to significantly reduce on-chain computing load and data costs.

According to Buterin, the system has significant advantages in quantum security signatures and privacy protection protocols. Currently, the Gas cost of quantum secure privacy transactions can be as high as approximately 10 million, and with EIP-8288, this cost is expected to drop to only tens of thousands of Gas.

Another highlight of the proposal is its ability to support next-generation signature or proof-of-work systems such as Falcon and ML-DSA without requiring any modifications to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). In addition, EIP-8288 paves the way for account abstraction applications that enhance privacy capabilities.

According to the design, Ethereum nodes will regularly aggregate dependencies between transactions to generate a recursive STARK proof. The block creator will then generate the necessary certificates for the transactions to be included in the block. It is estimated that the system's on-chain overhead is approximately 100 to 300 KB of STARK certification data per block, and an additional 96 bytes of data per claim to be verified.

Buterin also pointed out that this approach helps make the RISC-V architecture a standard instruction set for recursive STARK transactions in the Ethereum ecosystem. If EIP-8288 is included in the I-star upgrade, it will be a major step in Ethereum's long-term quantum resilience and privacy infrastructure.
