HIVE Digital Technologies has appointed Mark Volk as senior vice president of BUZZ HPC, with overall responsibility for revenue growth and global expansion.

HIVE Digital Technologies, a Canada-based Bitcoin miner and data center operator (listed on the Nasdaq and Toronto Stock Exchange), has appointed Mark Volk as senior vice president of its wholly-owned subsidiary BUZZ HPC, responsible for revenue operations. BUZZ HPC is a subsidiary focusing on artificial intelligence cloud and high-performance computing (HPC).

Volk's responsibility is to build and promote BUZZ HPC's revenue engine and achieve its global scale development. He will lead the company's market entry strategy in the enterprise, government, sovereign AI, hyperscale cloud, research and academic markets, and oversee the commercialization of GPU-based infrastructure, covering sovereign AI cloud services,"GPU as a service"(GPU-as-a-Service), rack hosting, and hybrid AI solutions.

Nearly three decades of experience in the AI and enterprise infrastructure industry

Volk has approximately 30 years of rich experience in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, cloud computing and enterprise infrastructure. He is not a new face within the company. He previously worked for HIVE as a consultant for about nine months, during which time he helped build BUZZ HPC's current GPU cloud requirements pipeline.

Prior to serving as a consultant, Volk served as CEO of CiphexAI Corporation. Prior to that, he worked at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) for five years. Under his commercial leadership, HPE's high-performance computing and artificial intelligence businesses have achieved approximately 425% growth, with annual revenue exceeding US$2 billion, serving government, corporate, research and academic clients in the Americas.

During his tenure at IBM, he managed a portfolio of approximately US$1.2 billion and helped launch the company's first high-performance computing cloud software-as-a-service (HPC Cloud SaaS) product, expanding the business by approximately 200% in less than two years.

This appointment coincides with a critical turning point

This high-level personnel change comes at a critical period for the development of BUZZ HPC. To date, BUZZ HPC has reached a total contract value of more than US$600 million in annual GPU cloud services transactions, including three-year and five-year agreements with creditworthy counterparties. Its current demand pipeline potential exceeds a total contract value of US$1 billion, and this pipeline was helped establish during its tenure as a consultant.

On August 17, BUZZ HPC signed a five-year, US$350 million AI cloud services agreement with an unnamed investment-grade corporate customer, the company's largest single transaction to date.

Data shows that on August 21, HIVE achieved a total daily revenue of more than US$1 million through computing power hash rates and GPU cloud services. At the same time, it produced approximately 12 bitcoins per day, accounting for approximately 2% of the total global bitcoin network production. HIVE plans to gradually scale back its bitcoin mining business at its Swedish facilities, which accounted for less than 5% of total daily revenue in August, and the company is evaluating the possibility of reusing this infrastructure for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence purposes.

"The goal is simple: to make every megawatt of electricity use its most efficient value." The company said.
