ETH The stock of Ethereum centralized exchanges has shrunk significantly, and the market liquidity landscape has changed
In recent years, the available number of Ethereum (ETH) on centralized exchanges has dropped significantly, a trend that marks a major shift in the way tokens are held and used. According to data from blockchain analysis firm Sanitation, the ETH balance on the exchange has shrunk to 6.06 million, a decrease of 73% compared with the peak of 22.9 million in June 2020.
Exchange balances shrink and its impact
More and more Ethereum is being allocated to pledge agreements, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), corporate reserves and long-term storage. These measures reduce the amount of ETH available for immediate sale on the open market, making price changes more sensitive to changes in demand. Sanitation pointed out that as fewer ETH is placed on exchanges, any increase in buying or selling pressure could have a amplifying effect on price fluctuations. Reduced liquidity means fewer coins near the order book, which could lead to increased volatility if demand rises or falls sharply.
Currently, the exchange supply of Ethereum has dropped to 6.06 million units, compared with a peak of 22.9 million units in June 2020. This marked a 73% decline in liquidity positions, making the market deeper for large buy and sell orders shallower.
