XRP Senior Trader Peter Brandt once again expressed skepticism about XRP. He argues that mere transaction utility does not automatically confer value on a cryptocurrency. Brandt, a longtime analyst and technical chartist in financial markets, recently shared his views in a video. [TAG
Challenging XRP's Value Base
Brandt points out that an asset's widespread use in trading does not necessarily justify its intrinsic value. He used fiat currency as an example to compare and explained that the US dollar is also widely used for payments, but this is not the reason why investors hold US dollars for speculative purposes.
"The U.S. dollar can also be efficiently used for trading purposes," Brant said, clarifying that few people buy the U.S. dollar simply because of its function as a medium of exchange. He believes that XRP holders need more compelling reasons than "low-cost, efficient transfers" to give value to their tokens.
He further commented that supporters of XRP should look at the factors that really drive demand and value, rather than just focusing on its utility in payments. Brant's comments come amid ongoing discussions within and outside the industry surrounding practical application scenarios and valuation issues of digital assets.
XRP supply issues remain in doubt
