Robinhood launches crypto perpetual contract trading to deepen derivatives layout
On September 29, at the HOOD Summit 2026 event held in Houston, Robinhood announced that its application would directly integrate the perpetual contract trading functions of eight cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. The move marks the most radical step yet for the broker in the crypto derivatives space.
Eligible U.S. customers will trade perpetual contracts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, Chainlink and Hyperliquid through Robinhood Derivatives and the crypto exchange Bitstamp. These contracts have no expiration date, with Bitcoin and Ethereum with leverage of up to 10 times, and the remaining six assets with leverage of up to 3 times. The product will be gradually opened to eligible customers in the coming months.
Highly competitive rate and risk control tool
Robinhood said that only one basis point (or 0.01%) fee will be charged per transaction before the end of the year, which he describes as one of the lowest rates in the industry. Traders can set stop loss and take profit orders, track strong prices in real time, and receive alert notifications when positions are at risk.
For Robinhood, which has built a brand reputation through commission-free stock trading, the advancement of the derivatives business has further deepened its presence in the crypto field, which has become an increasingly important part of its revenue. At the same time, major U.S. platforms are racing to enter the perpetual contract market: Coinbase Derivatives recently filed applications for perpetual contracts for listed stocks and ETFs, a market that offshore exchanges have long dominated.
AI Agents and All-Weather Markets
In addition to the release of derivatives functions, Robinhood also launched "Robinhood Agents", a built-in AI experience that can analyze markets, build strategies, and enable round-the-clock trading. In addition, Agent Apps from providers such as Token Terminal and Nasdaq are included.
The agent uses funds from a dedicated account for operations, and the manual approval mechanism for each transaction is turned on by default. Since the launch of proxy trading in May this year, more than 150,000 customers have opened accounts, and the agent currently uses Robinhood's tools almost 30 million times a day. The company also said weekend U.S. stock trading will go online early next year, depending on the results of regulatory reviews.
Why Robinhood is betting heavily on derivatives
CEO Vlad Tenev has positioned this product lineup as a strategic move to become the preferred platform for active traders. "Ownership cannot be achieved without markets, and markets cannot function without traders." he said.
The broker, which already runs the Robinhood Chain network, is betting that low-cost crypto derivatives and automated agents can attract trading volume from existing competitors and offshore platforms that now dominate perpetual contract trading.
