Winklevoss Asset Services filed a registration statement with the SEC for Zcash ETF to be listed on Nasdaq
Winklevoss Asset Services has filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused on tracking Zcash (ZEC) price performance.
ETF Structure and Core Characteristics
The proposed ETF seeks to be listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the ticker symbol "WINK". Unlike traditional products, the ETF will directly hold ZEC assets rather than using leverage or derivatives to achieve investment goals. According to the document, Winklevoss Asset Services will serve as the lead underwriter for the ETF, while its affiliated company, Gemini Trust Company, will be responsible for custody of ZEC assets.
According to the statement, the ETF plans to charge a lead underwriting fee of 0.25% per year. This rate structure makes it unique in the cryptocurrency ETF market. Notably, Winklevoss Capital Fund has shown interest in purchasing up to $100 million in ETF shares through its affiliated entities. However, this expression of intention is not legally binding and the final investment scale may still change.
Existing Competition and Market Background
If approved, the Winklevoss Zcash ETF will enter a market already operated by the Grayscale Zcash Trust (ZCSH). Recently, Grayscale announced a 1 - 3 share split of its ZCSH, highlighting the growing concern in the U.S. institutional market about exposure to private cryptocurrencies.
Over the past year, Zcash has attracted a lot of investor interest. According to CoinGecko, ZEC's price rose more than 735% during this period, and its total market value climbed to approximately US$23 billion. As of Tuesday, Zcash was trading at approximately $1,354, making it the 10th largest cryptocurrency in the world by market value.
Meme Tokens and Investor Behavior
As market participants pay close attention to privacy coins such as ZEC, their attention is also intensively focused on the Meme Tokens sector. Driven by Internet trends, this area can quickly attract huge capital flows. Technical analysts emphasized that in this rapidly evolving market environment, monitoring price movements and investor timing is crucial.
Fomo Appdata recently demonstrated a remarkable case: an investor converted a $99 position in the Meme token "Niu Lai" into approximately $370,000 in a few days. This highlights the speed and unpredictability of Meme token transactions. Investors interested in tracking emerging tokens and market trends can take advantage of Fomo App's comprehensive platform, which integrates features such as token discovery, real-time trading, social dynamics, investor leaderboards, and transaction alerts.
Winklevoss Capital Fund, through its affiliated entities, has expressed non-binding interest in acquiring up to US$100 million in shares of the proposed ETF, indicating that the market expects strong demand for spot Zcash investment vehicles.
This filing lays the foundation for future development as the SEC reviews whether to approve the listing of the Zcash ETF backed by Winklevoss on Nasdaq.
