Core Lightning Network is one of the main implementations of Lightning Network. After developers verified multiple reports, the project transitioned from regular updates to coordinated security releases. The software has been running on the Bitcoin main network since 2018 and is one of the mature implementations on the network. On August 13, the team said it had received reports of AI-generated vulnerabilities from multiple sources in the past 10 days, and developers and volunteers distinguished real flaws from false positives. The patch software will be pushed before the release of technical documents, and full details are expected to be announced in early September after node operators are given update time during the confidentiality period. The updated version will include a developer signature so that operators can verify that the distributed software matches the published source code, but the fix does not cover all reported issues.

The team made it clear: "Our suggestion is to upgrade." Offline mode cuts off the Peering Connection, but leaves the daemon running to monitor the blockchain and respond when the payment channel closes. Users cannot patch nodes they do not control, and payments may be made through third-party infrastructure, so the speed at which risk is reduced depends largely on the node operator. The incident also suggests that AI-assisted vulnerability reporting can both generate noise and provide useful security signals, as developers must filter a large number of submissions to discover several valid vulnerabilities. Information disclosure is still limited.
Lightning Network aims to move small bitcoin payments up from the basic blockchain through payment channels, and the core Lightning Network has been operating on the main network since 2018. By 2026, its coverage will be further expanded through self-managed mobile wallets and chat-based payment tools, and as more users rely on the network, daily node maintenance will become more important, which will also increase the importance of maintenance.
