XRP Ledger's agent payment layer hits a new high: x402 protocol transaction volume surged by 274%
XRP Ledger's (XRPL) agent payment layer recently achieved an important milestone. Records from the x402 center operated by@t54ai show that the agreement has processed 3,807,228 transactions so far, a 274% increase from earlier data. The total value currently settled is 5,726 XRP and 3,626 RLUSD (U.S. dollar stablecoins issued by Ripple).
How x402 proxy payments work
The x402 protocol leverages the HTTP 402 "payment required" response mechanism to allow artificial intelligence agents to pay for computing resources, data access, or API interfaces to other agents or services without the need for manual wallet management or manual approval.
All settlements are completed on XRP Ledger and take only a few seconds. Each transaction burns part of the fee, which means that each agent payment marginally reduces the circulation supply. On the XRPL network, the fixed network fee is only US$0.0002, and the settlement time is only 3 to 5 seconds.
XRPL's support for the x402 protocol stems from the contribution of Ripple partner t54. The center, as the core catalog and coordinator of inter-machine payments, currently lists 1,711 active services from 148 registered merchants.
Heurist leads the merchant list
@heurist_ai's Heurist inference router is far ahead of the center's top merchants. AI agents use the Heurist Inference Router to purchase additional computing power from other neural networks instantly, at prices as low as 0.003 RLUSD per microrequest. This category is growing far faster than any other category.
The fastest-growing category overall is on-demand reasoning: where agents rent computing capacity from other neural networks through Heurist inference routers. In addition to Heurist, other active merchants in the catalog include LucyOS, ClawBank and AskSurf, which together make up the top five merchants ranked by transaction volume.
Future Outlook and Industry Forecast
J., Director of Engineering, RippleX. Ayo Akinyele described current trading volumes as an early benchmark and predicted that the network could process 10 million to 100 million proxy transactions within two years. Akinyele compares the current moment to the early stages of cloud computing software, when common standards were just being formed and the amount of money in machine wallets was relatively small.
Chandler Fang, CEO of t54.ai, said that agents will soon be able to search for discounts and order physical products for their users, with about 100 online stores currently in the process of integration.
The rapid growth in the number of transactions marks the growing maturity of the agency economic system on XRP Ledger. At the same time, the broader market is still watching whether trading volume can translate into meaningful settlement value on a large scale.
