Kaspa is still out of reach of the top ten cryptocurrencies, although its technology is designed to solve ancient problems in the blockchain space
Although Kaspa has technology designed to solve some of the oldest blockchain problems, it still falls far outside the top ten cryptocurrencies. The network is capable of processing multiple blocks simultaneously, quickly confirming transactions, and retaining its Proof of Work security model. These features provide a strong technical argument for Kaspa. However, technology and market value do not always move in sync.
As of September 2026, Kaspa's market value is approximately US$1 billion. KAS trades at close to US$0.036, ranking around 62nd among cryptocurrencies, although its exact location varies according to different market tracking platforms. Of its largest supply of 28.7 billion KAS, nearly 96% has entered circulation. To reach the top ten, it is not enough to just rely on another network upgrade. Kaspa must translate the speed of its BlockDAG into practical applications, transaction requirements, developer activity, deeper liquidity, and the enduring needs of KAS.
Kaspa's BlockDAG technology gives the network a unique structure
Kaspa follows several principles that help Bitcoin succeed: anyone can participate in mining, the network uses a proof-of-work mechanism, and insiders do not receive private key token distribution before launch.
The biggest difference is how Kaspa organizes blocks. Bitcoin arranges blocks one by one on a single chain. Two miners may occasionally generate blocks at the same time, but the network ends up accepting only one path. Work completed in rejected blocks will not become part of the final ledger.
Kaspa uses a Block Directed Acyclic Graph, commonly referred to as a BlockDAG. This structure allows multiple blocks created at similar times to remain part of the ledger. Blocks form a connected network rather than a straight line.
GHOSTDAG provides the sorting system behind this structure. The protocol checks how blocks reference older blocks, separates honest activities from potentially harmful activities, and places accepted blocks in a consistent order.
Through direct comparisons, several differences become clearer:
This design helps Kaspa process activities quickly without having to hand over control to a few validators. Efforts to reduce waste also make faster block production more practical. Kaspa still faces the familiar blockchain challenge of balancing speed, security and decentralization. BlockDAG provides one possible answer, but actual network conditions will determine how effective this answer will work on a larger scale.
Recent Kaspa upgrades have significantly increased trading speeds
Kaspa has not achieved current performance levels with a single upgrade. Several technical improvements have gradually expanded the processing power of the network.
The Rusty Kaspa rewrite project replaces the original Go implementation with a faster Rust code base. Development continues until 2024 and helps ordinary computers process Kaspa's growing BlockDAG more efficiently. Rust also provides better memory management for networks designed around frequent blocks.
Crescendo brings the biggest increase in original speed. The fork activated on May 5, 2025 will increase Kaspa's productivity from 1 block per second to 10 blocks per second. Under normal conditions, transactions can be initially confirmed in less than 1 second.
Toccata followed up on June 30, 2026. This upgrade focuses more on network capabilities and transaction management than purely block speeds. Changes include improved transaction processing, revised script pricing, support for KRC20 and tools related to zero-knowledge verification.
These upgrades laid an important foundation:
- Kaspa can process frequent blocks without giving up proof of work.
- Faster confirmation makes daily payments more practical.
- KRC20 supports allowing more token activity on the network.
- Zero-knowledge tools may support more advanced applications.
- Lower block waste may increase mining efficiency.
However, technical capabilities do not automatically create economic demand. Kaspa requires developers to take advantage of these features and create applications that require KAS. High transaction volume driven by temporary token activity is worth far less than continued use in payments, financial applications, games or other services.
DAGKnight could be another major step. The proposed consensus upgrade will more effectively adapt to actual network latency and may support future goals of 25, 40 or even 100 blocks per second. As long as decentralization and reliability remain intact, such speeds will strengthen Kaspa's technological position.
Kaspa must overcome major adoption challenges before entering the top ten
Kaspa's biggest hurdle does not involve block production speed. The Internet needs a larger economic ecosystem.
Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain and other major networks support thousands of applications, developers, tokens and active users. Compared to these established competitors, Kaspa's ecosystem remains small. Although KRC20 tokens expand the scope of activities, Kaspa still needs apps that give users clear reasons for returning.
Exchange access is another challenge. KAS is already traded on multiple platforms, although wider availability on major regulated exchanges could increase liquidity and make assets easier to purchase. Stronger access to fiat currencies will also reduce friction among new users.
Developer tools also need further improvement. Programmers often choose networks with reliable documentation, funding opportunities, mature infrastructure, and active user communities. Fast blocking alone may not be enough to persuade teams to leave ecosystems where resources already exist.
Practical adoption must also go beyond trading. Kaspa can benefit from applications related to payments, tokenized assets, decentralized finance, games and security data verification. Every category requires reliable products, not technical demonstrations.
Competition makes the task more difficult. Kaspa faces competition from proof-of-work networks such as Bitcoin, programmable platforms such as Ethereum and Solana, and newer ultra-high-speed chains. Each competitor already has its own capital, community and developer network.
Kaspa needs a higher valuation to enter the top ten cryptocurrencies
The top ten typically requires a market cap of billions of dollars. The exact entry point changes as cryptocurrency prices fluctuate, but thresholds between $20 billion and $30 billion provide a useful scope for work.
Kaspa's circulating supply is close to 27.5 billion KAS. Since almost all maximum supply quantities already exist, the future dilution effect should not be as large as the demand impact.

A market value of $20 billion would bring KAS close to $0.73. A $25 billion valuation would yield a price close to $0.91, while a $30 billion valuation would put KAS at approximately $1.09. This means that Kaspa may need to grow approximately 20 to 30 times from its September 2026 valuation before reaching the typical top ten range.
Several developments may support this expansion:
- Developer activity needs to continue to grow.
- Kaspa needs more useful applications.
- Daily transactions should come from repeated use.
- Access to major exchanges needs improvement.
- KAS liquidity should deepen in multiple markets.
- The broader crypto market requires a conducive environment.
During a broad market downturn, Kaspa could also enter the top 10 with a lower valuation. However, this outcome will depend more on the devaluation of competitive assets than on Kaspa creating economic growth.
Kaspa price forecast depicts a variety of possible outcomes
Kaspa reached a current all-time high of approximately US$0.2075 on August 1, 2024. The move briefly established KAS as one of the strongest proof-of-work assets outside Bitcoin.

Subsequently, prices fell from that peak as demand for mid-sized cryptocurrencies weakened. KAS currently trades between US$0.033 and US$0.040, making it more than 80% below the 2024 record.
Looking at the KAS price chart shows the market is looking for a lasting bottom. The narrow range in September 2026 suggests that neither buyers nor sellers have yet established full control.
Some forecasting platforms expect limited fluctuations in the remaining months of 2026. Changelly released an estimate of close to $0.036 for October, with a possible ceiling around $0.044. A broader forecast of reaching $0.05 or $0.12 requires a stronger recovery and better market conditions.
The following scenarios relate possible KAS prices to required network progress:
During 2026, The $0.05 to $0.12 range looks more achievable because it does not require Kaspa to immediately transform its ecosystem. A return to near $0.20 will require KAS to review its previous record and overcome considerable selling pressure.
Prices between US$0.50 and US$0.80 will represent different stages of growth. Kaspa requires functioning applications, higher network usage, greater liquidity and a clear need to go beyond mining or holding KAS.
BlockDAG technology alone may not guarantee a top ten position
Kaspa's BlockDAG gives projects a trusted technical identity. Crescendo demonstrated that networks can significantly increase block production, while Toccata expands the base available to developers.
What is more difficult to test now is adoption. Kaspa must transform rapid confirmation and parallel blocks into applications that users need. Developers must have a reason to build there, and users must have a reason to acquire and spend KAS.
Under current supply assumptions, a top ten position in cryptocurrencies may require KAS to trade at prices close to US$0.90 or higher. That goal is mathematically possible, but it requires economic growth well beyond Kaspa's current $1 billion valuation.
