The trick is always the same: a message states that your balance must be transferred to a new address before upgrading to ensure security, or unlocked via a form. For NU7, there is no such legal process. What if your ZEC is deposited on the exchange?

Then the exchange processing technology: the trading platform runs the node, updates the software, and your balance in the customer's account is still a creditor's right to the exchange. Trading platforms typically suspend deposits and withdrawals for several hours before and after activation so that no transfers will arrive at the switching moment. What changes does the 25-second block make to transfers and confirmations?

Block time is the average interval at which new blocks are added to the network. On Zcash, the target has so far been 75 seconds; it has been 25 seconds after NU7. Once the transfer enters a block, it is considered confirmed and is not considered final until several subsequent blocks. A threefold reduction in the interval means that the same number of confirmations accumulates over one-third of the time.

The second German deadline in this matter is after NU7 and has nothing to do with upgraded technology, but it does involve the issue of where you can hold ZEC in the future. The EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2024/1624, in Article 79 prohibits credit institutions, financial institutions and crypto asset service providers from maintaining anonymous accounts and accounts that anonymize or significantly conceal holders or transactions, which explicitly includes cryptocurrencies that enhance anonymity. The regulation will apply on July 10, 2027.

Zcash is one of the assets regularly mentioned in this debate because one of its core functions is blocking transactions. In order to plan your positions, the order is important: first there is the November 2026 technology upgrade, then the July 2027 regulatory deadline, and only the latter may need to decide where your coins should be placed.

What mistakes do ZEC holders make during network upgrades?

The most common mistake is moving too early. Anyone who moves a position back and forth out of fear of upgrades, or sells and buys it back, may trigger a taxable disposition and reset their holding period to zero, even though upgrades do not require doing so at all. The second important mistake is believing the false information that drives you to take action: There is no legal NU7 process that requires you to unlock your wallet or enter a recovery phrase.

The third point involves price expectations. Analysts and market commentators like to associate upgrades with price targets; these statements are opinions of the companies involved, not characteristics of the agreement. Between October 20 (setting the activation height) and November 5, there are two weeks of fixed dates and no one can infer the price from which. Finally: Anyone running their own node tends to delay updates until shortly before the deadline, although TestNet allows risk-free rehearsals starting on October 6.

How to identify real announcements?

Real Zcash announcements appear in the project's community forums, the development team's repository, and numbered ZIP. Such announcements include block heights, version numbers, and schedules, and never require certificates. If a request is made via email, chat, or advertising, assume the source is forged, even if the name and design seem correct.

Zcash NU7 Upgrade: Summary of Points

Keep your positions unchanged and update your wallet.
