ADA Cardano developer IOG issued an emergency warning: The official YouTube channel has been hijacked, urging users not to interact.
On September 18, 2026, Cardano's main developer Input Output Group (IOG) issued an emergency warning urging users to avoid any interaction with their official YouTube channel because the channel is suspected to have been hijacked by hackers. According to reports, the hacked channel hosted a fraudulent live broadcast using deeply forged videos suspected to be generated by AI posing as Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson.

The live broadcast promoted a fake cryptocurrency airdrop event, displayed a QR code and promised to "double your wealth." The malicious live broadcast lasted for nearly two hours and may put viewers at risk of cryptocurrency theft. IOG advises users not to click on links, send funds to displayed addresses, or share personal information and mnemonic words related to the channel.
IOG said it had contacted YouTube to regain control of the channel and stop fraudulent live broadcasts. Until further notice, the developer urged the crypto community to avoid the channel completely and treat all airdrop statements related to the compromised account as fraud.

Previous cases illustrate the financial impact. TRM Labs tracked a reported deep counterfeiting of Elon Musk's cryptocurrency airdrop in June 2024 and found that the associated wallet received funds from multiple victims within approximately 20 minutes. Its analysis showed that operators received at least $5 million between March 2024 and January 2025. This example shows how impersonation can cause huge losses in a short period of time.
Earlier this year, MEXC warned that cryptocurrency users are facing a growing threat from AI-driven scams, with fraudsters increasingly using deeply forged videos, AI-generated voice calls and fake support messages to trick investors into surrendering passwords, private keys and two-factor authentication (2FA) codes.
