ICP sets new fee benchmark
A new milestone in cost efficiency has been set in Dfinity's Internet Computer network. According to data from online analytics platform Chainspect App, the ICP network recorded the lowest average weekly transaction fee in history on October 7, of only US$0.0000828. This data highlights the structural advantage that the protocol has quietly built: at high throughput, the cost of a single transaction approaches zero.
This time node is worth noting. Despite the volatility of the broader cryptocurrency market, ICP fee data suggests that the network is continuing to operate as it was designed to process transactions at low cost and at high speed regardless of external conditions.
Speed and cost: ICP's dual advantages
This record-low rate is not an isolated phenomenon. Internet Computer has long been rated as one of the fastest blockchains in today's production environment. When measuring actual throughput, low fees, and reliable performance in real-world use scenarios, it competes with networks such as Solana, BNB Chain, Sui and Base.
Currently, the network's transaction volume per second (TPS) is approximately 6,700. In multiple comparisons, it is the best-performing blockchain, with real-time TPS more than twice that of Solana.
Internet Computer is a Layer 1 blockchain developed by the DFINITY Foundation. It hosts smart contracts called "Canister" in more than 47 subnets and uses chain-key cryptography to achieve sub-second final confirmation.
The network uses a reverse Gas model, in which developers pay calculation costs in advance, which are settled through cycles generated by burning ICP tokens. This architecture is a key reason why end-user transaction costs remain extremely low: when transactions occur, the burden of fees is borne by the developer, not the user.
In the first quarter of 2026, the Internet Computer blockchain processed 1 billion transactions on 47 subnets and had 1.2 million active wallets. This activity provides background for expense data: The weekly average of $0.000828 does not come from a rarely used statistical outlier, but from a network that handles real large-scale traffic.
For developers and users evaluating on-chain economics, the combination of high throughput and negligible fees continues to distinguish ICP from older Layer 1 networks that routinely drive up costs due to congestion.
