CEO of Strategy: No regrets selling Bitcoin at US$60,000 and then buying it back at a higher price.
CEO of Strategy said he had no regrets about selling Bitcoin when the price was close to US$60,000 and then buying it back at a higher price, and defended himself by saying that although the transaction appeared to be a loss on the books, he insisted that it was the right decision.
The CEO made the above remarks while explaining the timing of his sale (about $60,000) and repurchase (about $80,000). The comments also appeared in a recorded speech in which he responded directly to the decision.
Sell it at a low price, then buy it at a high price-he refused to apologize for it.
The order of events is the key. Strategy first sold Bitcoin when it was close to $60,000, and then bought it back at a higher price. The CEO said that if he were given another chance, he would still do the same.
On the surface, this is a deal that critics are happy to analyze: sell low and buy high, which runs counter to the most basic rules of the market. However, the senior management of Strategic Company made an unapologetic statement.
Why re-enter at a higher price does not mean that selling is wrong
According to relevant reports, the CEO's argument is to distinguish the outcome of the transaction from the rationality of the decision. Selling at nearly $60,000 and subsequent repurchase at about $80,000 did cause financial losses, but this in itself does not prove that the original selling operation was wrong.
This distinction is at the heart of its defense. Decisions made at a given moment for a given reason may still be reasonable even if the price moves unfavorable later. Judging by the repurchase price alone is tantamount to hindsight.
Strategy has previously adopted a similar logic, believing that its Bitcoin position is solid enough and the liquidation price is almost zero. The company also positioned individual selling actions as tactical operations rather than signals to retreat.
The "no regrets" attitude reveals Strategy's position on Bitcoin
For those who follow Bitcoin, the key is not the round of buying and selling itself, but how Strategy talks about belief and execution. The CEO's message is that buying and selling Bitcoin is just a tool, not a shift in the company's long-term stance.
This is consistent with other information within the company. President Phong Le has said that selling thousands of bitcoins will not affect market prices, further indicating that the company views its positions as assets that can be proactively managed rather than given up.
Strategy companies have not always been in continuous buying mode. The company had previously suspended Bitcoin purchases until its preferred shares rebounded, once again confirming that its Bitcoin activity adjusts based on capital conditions rather than automatically.
The broader positioning has been clarified in the company's own digital credit capital framework, which explains how strategic companies build their bitcoin-backed capital strategies.
So the simple question left by the phrase "no regrets" is: If selling for $60,000 and buying it back for a higher price was a good decision for the CEO of a strategic company, what was a bad decision?
