XRP Former Reserve Bank of India President Raghuram Rajan will lead the Ripple Swell 2026 Opening Institutional Summit
Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) President Raghuram Rajan will be a guest speaker at the Ripple Swell 2026 Opening Institutional Summit in New York City. Ripple has merged the Swell Conference with the XRPL Apex developer event to connect financial institutions with developers building applications across the XRP Ledger ecosystem.
More than 1,500 attendees and 75 speakers are expected to conduct in-depth discussions on key topics such as payments, digital assets, capital markets, academia and blockchain infrastructure.
Central bank perspective introduces financial dialogue
According to the event announcement, Rajan will deliver an opening speech at the institutional summit held in New York City on October 27. The three-day conference, which will be held at The Shed on October 29, brings together leaders from the fields of finance and blockchain development.
Rajan currently teaches finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and serves as an Distinguished Service Professor. In addition, he co-led a Federal Reserve task force to study the costs and institutional impact of its balance sheet policies. His previous positions include serving as Governor of the Central Bank of India and Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund.
Rajan also served as deputy president of the Bank for International Settlements, which further consolidated his background in international financial coordination. As a result, his presence brought a central bank perspective to Ripple's discussions on payments, tokenization, digital assets and financial infrastructure.
This selection reflects Swell's growing emphasis on connecting mature financial institutions with companies building blockchain-based products and services. Rajan's opening speech will set the institutional theme for the entire conference, and executives, developers and scholars will then participate in a broader conference session.
Ripple integrates institutional finance and XRPL development
Ripple merged Swell and its developer-focused XRPL Apex activities into a conference project for the first time. This extended form will connect institutional decision makers with developers building infrastructure and applications within the XRP Ledger ecosystem.
Organizers expect more than 1,500 attendees, at least 75 speakers, and more than 50 meetings across three stages. In addition, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, President Monica Long and Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz will play an important role in the meeting.
Water.org co-founder Matt Damon will also attend with Bullish Chairman and CEO Tom Farley. Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's crypto business executive, will represent the exchange sector in relevant aspects covering the development of digital assets and financial market regulation.
In the meantime, Tradeweb CEO Billy Hult will bring experience in institutional trading and e-finance markets to the conference. Laide Majiyagbe, Executive Vice President of Global Markets, BNY, will participate in discussions involving tokenization and modern market infrastructure from a banking perspective.
Michael Blaugrund of the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and Chase Lax, CEO of Susquehanna Crypto, will strengthen capital market representation. PEAK6 co-founder Jenny Just will also share her experience in investment operations, fintech and trading businesses.
Representatives of the XRP Ledger Foundation and XRPL Commons will connect with the web development community. Brett Mollin will represent the XRP Ledger Foundation, while David Bchiri will represent XRPL Commons.
In addition, scholars from Colombia University, Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, Wharton Business School and many international universities will also join the event. Universities from Luxembourg, Birmingham, Trento and San Francisco will further expand the discussion beyond the commercial cryptocurrency market.
By merging these two sessions, Ripple placed institutional adoption and XRPL development in a shared environment. Rajan's role further strengthens this approach by connecting central bank experience with discussions about blockchain's place in global finance.
