IREN's share price rose, AI cloud business exploded growth

IREN's share price rose 7.3% on Friday to close at US$44.68, with trading volume of approximately 35.6 million shares. The company, led by Blue Owl Capital, has locked in a $2.4 billion private equity credit financing to acquire NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra infrastructure. In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, AI cloud operating revenue surged 687% to US$128.8 million. The Wall Street consensus rating is "moderate buy", with analysts predicting an average price target of $75.67, with potential upside potential of about 69%. However, huge net losses, a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.80 and financing costs of about 9% still raise concerns.

IREN shares surged 7.3% to $44.68 on Friday, hitting an intraday high of $44.75. Trading activity totaled approximately 35.6 million shares, a decrease of 17% from the average daily trading volume of the stock. IREN Limited, IREN

This upward trend follows two major announcements: one is the conclusion of a major credit line agreement, and the other is the company's disclosure of impressive AI cloud performance indicators in its fourth quarter report for fiscal 2026.

The company announced a $2.4 billion private equity credit facility coordinated by Blue Owl Capital. The financing package includes US$1.2 billion in senior term loans and US$1.2 billion in senior secured notes. The 30-month credit line will support IREN in deploying air-cooled NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPU infrastructure at its Mackenzie location.

Interest rates on credit terms remain at around 9%, which shows investors are confident in GPU infrastructure projects while acknowledging operational uncertainties.

On August 27, IREN announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026. For the entire fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, AI cloud revenue reached US$128.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 687%. AI cloud revenue in the fourth quarter alone reached US$70.5 million, an increase of 110% from the same quarter last year.

Citizens analyst Gregory Miller noted that IREN "continues to gain momentum in the underlying AI cloud business." He maintained his $80 target, suggesting about 79 percent upside potential from Friday's close.

Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani expressed similar optimism, pointing out that IREN is "executing aggressively in its cloud business." He reiterated his $100 target price and buy stance, implying potential gains of around 124%.

H.C. Wainwright's Mike Colonnese also maintained his buy recommendation, emphasizing that the growing pricing dynamics of GPU infrastructure are a key catalyst.

Cantor Fitzgerald retains its "Overallocation" rating on August 28, with a price target of $99. Compass Point maintained its "Buy" rating on the same day with a price target of $85. Citigroup confirmed its stance of "outperforming the market".

Weiss Ratings took the opposite stance and this week lowered IREN to "sell (d)" from "sell (d+)".

Balance sheet issues deserve special attention

The financial structure shows that the debt-to-equity ratio is 1.80 and the company recorded a record net loss in its most recent financial period. Skeptics question whether the AI computing investment of "new cloud" operators has produced enough returns.

IREN's trading beta is 4.28 and its P/E ratio is-19.09, highlighting its volatile and growth-oriented characteristics.

The stock's 50-day moving average was $40.11, compared with a 200-day moving average of $45.43, leaving Friday's close slightly below the long-term technical threshold.

Management reported that the total value of contracts signed with GPU production capacity reached US$2.8 billion, and that production capacity had been fully allocated for the 2026 calendar year. IREN expects annual recurring revenue to exceed US$4 billion by the end of the year.

Among the 21 analysts tracking the stock, 15 give a buy rating, 3 recommend hold, and 2 recommend sell, forming a consensus rating of "moderate buy" with an average target price of $75.67.
